You will need:

  • a plastic bottle
  • some corrugated cardboard
  • bamboo or twigs
  • scissors

How to make:

  1. Ask an adult to help you cut the top off the bottle
  2. Using the scissors, trim down the corrugated cardboard so it is just shorter in length than the bottle (you may need an adult to help here too).
  3. Roll up the cardboard and check that it fits in the plastic bottle.
  4. Slide some bamboo or twigs in the gaps between the card. It's ok if these stick out a little as it gives the ladybird somewhere to land.
  5. You can decorate the ladybird home, maybe using some leaf stickers or draw some nature pictures on the bottle.
  6. Place the sanctuary in a sheltered spot, making sure the opening is lower than the end of the bottle so any water will drain away.
