As the days grow shorter and the air carries that familiar crispness of autumn, there’s something magical about slowing down and spending more time together at home. The trees shed their fiery leaves, and the garden begins to quiet — but look a little closer, and you’ll see tiny flashes of movement in the branches. For the birds that stay through the cooler months, food becomes harder to find, and that’s where a little family creativity can make a world of difference. Crafting a homemade bird feeder is a simple, heart-warming project that brings everyone together. Your garden will soon be alive again with fluttering wings and cheerful chirps, a living reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can bring nature (and your family) closer together.

What you need:
- Craft wire (or string)
- Cereal hoops
- Dried fruit
How to make:
- Ask an adult to help cut a piece of craft wire or string around 30cm long. Make a little loop at one end.
- Thread cereal hoops and dried fruit onto the wire
- Join the two ends of the wire together to form a circle and twist together.
- Hand your feeder in the garden and watch the birds enjoy a tasty meal.
P.S. Make sure you hang the feeder high enough so dogs and cats can't reach it!
