There's nothing quite like escaping to the countryside with your four-legged friend in tow. At Feather Down Farms, we know how important it is to include the whole family—paws included—in your holiday plans. And when it comes to keeping dogs dry, warm, and pampered after a romp in the woods or a splash in the stream, our friends at Ruff and Tumble are the experts.

We are privileged in the UK to have so much variation in our wide countryside landscapes, from moors to woodlands, mountains to lakes. Here we’ll look at the best ways to embrace outdoors adventures with your dog alongside.

The joy of glamping with dogs in the UK

Glamping with dogs can be one of the best ways to experience the great outdoors together. Often located in more rural areas, you can skip car journeys and explore miles of countryside from your cosy home from home.

Whether you opt for leisurely beach walks in Norfolk, exploring the moors in Devon or take on the challenge of Snowdonia National Park in Wales, you’re never far from the smells, sounds and serenity of nature.

Feather Down Farms offer 13 dog-friendly locations across the UK, the perfect base for you and your pup’s adventures. With large canvas hideaways, cosy wood-burning stoves and cosy beds, you’ll enjoy being in the heart of nature together.

Muddy walks: The best part of a dog’s day

The British countryside is nothing if not unpredictable. Rain or shine, dogs need outdoor time, and glamping doesn’t mean you’re immune to the elements.

Muddy adventures won’t stop your dog from exploring, in fact they often enjoy it more! Plan your route with a cosy dog-friendly pub or café stop in between or choose routes that combine woodland for some shelter during rainy walks. And for the ultimate in comfort, Ruff and Tumble’s Drying Mitts and Dog Towelling Robes will keep both dog and tent clean and cosy once you’re back on the farm.

And of course, let’s not forget those balmy, summer days! Consider bringing a cooling mat for once you are back at your glamping tent, looking for shaded areas and always keeping their water bowl topped up.

Explore responsibly

Most Feather Down locations are working farms with livestock, so it’s important to keep dogs on leads in certain areas and always pick up after them. Respecting the local environment ensures we can all enjoy the countryside together.

More and more dog owners are planning ahead for their trips, to centre around dog-friendly attractions, with dog-friendly beaches, pubs, walks and experiences becoming more popular. The beauty of staying in the countryside is that you’re often closer to attractions that are dog-friendly, compared to towns and cities.

When staying at your Feather Down glamping site, ask your hosts for dog-friendly walks nearby or which fields they can run free in away from farm animals, they’ll likely know the best secret spots.
