Escape to a simpler life with Sammy and Henry

You will be staying on the farm with wonderful hosts, Sammy and Henry, an ideal spot for a family holiday in the New Forest. Their woodland has been a part of the Sykes family since 1790. The farm is home to the Chiddock Pony Stud Farm but you will meet other animals like sheep, goats, pigs, ducks, chicken, sheep and cows. Relax in our spacious tents and log cabins spread out on the forest floor – after all, in 2021 the Irish News described Midgham as the ideal spot for a digital detox.

Explore your New Forest surroundings

All the charms of the New Forest are on your doorstep when you stay at Midgham. It’s a place of idyllic glades, ancient woodland and open moors where ponies, cattle, donkeys and deer roam free. Should you tire of nature then just 10 minutes away is the New Forest Water Park and Somerley House where you'll find all manner of fairs, activities and festivals, something for all ages.

Feeling adventurous? Visit the Go Ape tree-top trail (9 miles away) and Moors Valley Country Park (5 miles). To complete your adventure, visit the medieval city of Salisbury and Stonehenge to get a glimpse of our Neolithic past.

What to do at Midgham Farm

An abundance of activities will keep you occupied during your stay at Midgham. They range from rope swings, sand pits, fly fishing (between 15 April and 30 September), coarse fishing (15 June to 15 March), archery, axe throwing, swimming or paddling in the nearby legendary Hampshire Avon. The farm welcomes new arrivals every spring so children can help out with the newborns and really get a feel for life on the farm - bottle feeding the lambs always goes down a treat!

At the end of the day, gather round one of the four campfires, roast marshmallows and share your farm adventures before retiring exhausted but happy to your comfy bed.

Electric car charging is available at Midgham farm.

One of the world's best family holidays

Pizza night

The farmer will usually fire up the pizza oven during your stay. Everyone gathers round to tell their stories of the day’s adventures and invent pizza toppings you’ll never find on the high street

Ask the farmer

The farm tour is a must if it’s on offer during your stay. But you don’t wait till then. The farmer will be delighted to tell you more about farm life at any time.

The farm shop

It’s great for the basics and usually even better for local produce and low food miles. And every Feather Down farm shop operates on an honesty basis.

Hidden gem. Perfect place for our family holiday

Mrs Shimmon

Midgham farm is the perfect escape. The kids love running around the grounds and being around the very friendly goats. We can’t wait to visit again.

Mrs Harper

We had a wonderful stay. The location was perfect, especially with the shady forest during a scorching weekend, and Sammy is incredibly welcoming and friendly. The kids loved the goats and seeing the horses!

Mrs Kirkpatrick

We had the most wonderful experience at Featherdown. It was truly magical and so much fun. We can’t wait to visit again!

Mrs Black

Midgham Farm is a wonderful place to stay. Due to the layout of the tents across the forest there was plenty of space for children to explore without bothering other glampers. The hosts at this featherdown have provided so much for kids to do and see that they couldn't fail to have an amazing time. We felt Sammy was passionate about the children having some 'wild' time and everything was provided to have a relaxed, fun stay.

Mrs Purser

Our grandchildren loved this experience. The canvas tents were comfortable and well equipped, campfires in the evening cooking marshmallows and the pygmy goats were definitely the best bits! Will come again.

Mrs Howard

Great rustic get away, lovely set up and very friendly.Nice camp, great pizza oven. The only issue we had was that the cold water in the shower went off after 90 seconds - so very fast showers all round. Otherwise a lovely place and we would be happy to return

Mrs Miller

Just what we needed. Simple, beautiful and fun

Mrs Alston

Lovely break away with the forest setting providing a different Featherdown experience. Sammy was friendly, checking in on us and even going above and beyond to drop off a left behind teddy!

Mrs Pepperell

Mrs Philpott

Great family fun

Mrs lucas

A return to nature

Mrs Viggiani

Another brilliant Featherdown experience, kids loved exploring the woods and feeding the animals while we relaxed. Will definitely be back!

Ms Childerhouse

It was lovely to be with my family and our location in the woods was beautiful, but my mattress was hard and uncomfortable, there were only 2 showers and one didn’t work. I also think the log burning stove could have been bigger.

Mrs Gillespie

What an amazing stay !

Mrs. Quantrell

Amazing fun, really warm and cozy. No WiFi, family games and talking!!

Mrs Britten

The best Featherdown stay so far

Ms Bokenham

Wonderful to escape to the countryside and for the children to be 'free range kids' for a few days. As a parent I'm always concerned about how much time my children spend on screens so it was brilliant to see them having so much fun in the fresh air and never once asking for screen time.

Mrs Grindley

A truly amazing experience. A huge thankyou to Vikki she was a real help.

Mrs Hughes

We loved the seclusion of the two cabins. The set up was the usual excellent quality we expect from Featherdown.

Ms. Clement

Fabulous escape from the real world. The kids absolutely love exploring, feeding the animals, playing on the swings and of course the marshmallow roasting. And if the kids are happy, the adults can relax and enjoy themselves.

Ms. Maclaverty

This was our third visit to Midgham and as always it was just wonderful. Sammy and her family are so welcoming and helpful; the tents are in the most idyllic spot with plenty of room for the kids to explore and run wild; there is an easy walk into Fordingbridge with pubs and playground and river to splash in, and you can easily reach the river from the farm where we spent a lovely ,morning wild swimming and fishing. We have visited a LOT of Featherdowns but keep coming back to Midgham because whatever the weather, it really does have something for everyone. We have already recommended friends and if you're thinking of booking then don't hesitate, you will have a brilliant time. We will definitely be back!!

mrs Gowland-Smith

A wonderful glamping experience with all our needs catered for.

Mrs. Gates

A fantastic back to basics weekend away where children can play like they should and the grown ups can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Mrs Hindell

Great location for younger children with the animals and older children to river swim.

Mr Clarke

Mr Bourke

A wonderful getaway in beautiful surroundings, friendly staff, friendly farm animals in a cosy warm cabin made even cosier inside when the weather turned and the rain came down

Mrs Williams

Mrs Alston

Lovely setting in the woods, made a nice change to the usual settings we’ve had at other farms. Log cabin was cosy and spacious.

Mr Campbell

We had a fantastic Halloween break. Pumpkins and sweets supplied and a spooky time in the woods. Going to book up for the Easter break. Top Mark's to Sammy.?

Ms. Richardson

Perfectly relaxing and enjoyable!

Ms Bettles

Was so nice to be so close to nature with still the comforts of home, we truly loved our stay.

Mrs Pettigrew-Hextall

Great family adventure in the pines

Mrs Perkins

Despite the weather being awful our stay in one of the log cabins was brilliant, the whole experience was a great, we had a 4 and 7 year old who thoroughly enjoyed the weekend.

Mrs Harrison

Brilliant - Grandchildren just loved the diggers, sandpits, climbing ropes and swings. Home made pizzas in the pizza oven was a great success, and they enjoyed making the farmers stew. Only downside was it had to be cooked indoors as it couldnt be fixed to the tripod to cook outdoors.

Ms Clarke

Totally different experience

Mrs Sinclair

wonderful holiday, perfectly peaceful - back to nature

Miss Cashmore

What a fantastic time we had! The lodge was exactly as shown in the images - comfy bed, unlimited supply of wood for the fire and a beautiful setting in the woods. We were a great distance away from other tents and lodges to give us privacy. There were so many places to go around the New Forest for walks and days out but we also enjoyed relaxing in the lodge. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The animals were fun to look at as we passed every day. Our one tip: bring a few lanterns or torches as the lodge can be dark - the paraffin lamps provided work well but led lamps are useful too! (We were given this tip by staff before arrival which was great). Overall it was a really unique experience and we loved it. Just like camping but only the good bits! We will definitely be staying at Feather Down again!

Mrs Williams

Great few days on Midgham Farm. Very friendly atmosphere around the farm. My Granddaughter loved seeing the goats and pig as we passed by and collecting her egg from the chickens. We had intended to eat out but the found the evenings very relaxing back at the tent. Enjoyed cooking on the wood burner and had fun making pizza to cook in the Pizza oven. Advise taking a small burner if you like a quick cuppa in the morning takes a little time for log burner to heat up. Hot shower in the tent was a little bit of luxury each day. Look forward to another trip to Midgham Farm.

Mrs Ward
