Escape to a simpler life with Faye and Austin

Discover Hollings Hill in Herefordshire, one of the original tried and tested Feather Downs and much loved by journalists. The Daily Express being the last to give the farm a great write-up in 2021. Only an hour’s drive from Birmingham, the farm is the ideal spot for a family holiday in the Malvern Hills. There are Holstein-Friesian cows, ponies and chickens who will be there to welcome you, alongside Austin and Faye and their four children. One of them, Freddie has a small flock of ewes that lamb in April around Easter.

Explore the Malverns

If you’re looking for an active holiday, there are plenty of things to do beyond Hollings Hill farm, including walking and biking. There are also visits to spectacular sites like Great Malvern Priory or Eastnor Castle, and to the town of Malvern itself with its famous spring water and shops selling antiques, arts and crafts, and old books. The view from the top of the Malverns across the Wye Valley and over to the Cotswolds is rated one of the best in England. There is also Ledbury, the local market town which is the place to head for independent gift shops, cafes and antiques.

What to do at Hollings Hill

Why not come and watch the cows being milked? The whole Knowles family is looking forward to giving you an insight into the way they farm here, and from the moment you arrive, they’ll see to it that you are well looked after. During your stay, you’ll have unlimited use of the stew pot, paying only for ingredients from the newly-built honesty shop. As well as wood-burning stoves in each canvas hideaway, there is a rustic outdoor AGA-style cooker for relaxed al fresco meals before you turn in for the night with your comfortable bed. If you want some added luxury, there's one hot tub available to book (additional cost) next to one of the canvas hideaways (subject to availability). There's nowhere better for a family holiday in the Malvern Hills.

We had a wonderful stay at Faye and Austin's farm. The safari style tents were comfortable and cosy and we loved being off grid but still enjoying having a hot shower! The field was perfect for our feral gang of kids to run around and the personal farm tour was such a highlight.

Going back to basics (+hot tub!) really helped us switch off and unwind when we got into the swing of things. The tent came really well equipped and we soon got used to the simple life. Our toddler loved waking up on the farm and trying to identify the animal and tractor noises.

The whole experience was fantastic, the hosts were above and beyond friendly and helpful and clearly loved making their guests happy. The whole family were enthusiastic including their wonderful children. It’s definitely worth a visit especially if you are happy letting young children roam around this beautiful site to meet and play with other children. Make sure you book a hot tub it’s a lovely treat and stays warm until the next morning so you can sit and watch the sunrise.

Great place, we all had a ball. Bring extra camping chairs if a big group, matches, torches, bed socks, waterproof shoes & a gas stove. Stayed late April and was zero degrees overnight but we were warm enough! Get your stove on straight away as your first job on arrival! Farm tour was amazing. Great spot - amazing views. Farm shop had ‘some’ stock - tricky in early season as not many guests in yet to stock much fresh stuff but we bought with us what we needed anyway. Pizza oven worked a treat. Faye & Grace were brilliant. Hot tubs super hot! Showers good. Very clean. Only comment is grass was a tad long! We will be back

It was an amazing experience being on a working farm. The kids especially loved it, playing with the chickens and touring the dairy. They really want to come again. The owner Faye was lovely. The only downside was the cockerels that started at 4am and were so close to the tents impossible to sleep through. Otherwise it would have been perfect.

This is our third year at Featherdown and each farm offers a unique, fun filled glamping experience. Farm tours, pizza evenings, toasting marshmallows on campfires to name just a few of the fun activities we did and just enjoying the outdoors with friends. 5 stars!

Beautiful, peaceful location. The hosts were really lovely and welcoming. The log cabin was very comfortable with plenty of space. The Hot Tub takes a while to warm up but definitely worth the wait. Amazing walks in the Malvern Hills and the town of Malvern is a must see.

It was the perfect break away from it all! Fantastic location for walking the Malvern hills. We received a warm and friendly greeting by Faye and her lovely children on arrival. The cabin was equipped with everything we needed. We spent the days walking the hills and the autumnal evenings sat around the log fire by candle light playing board games. The most relaxing way to spend quality time together as a family!

We went as a group of four for a short, relaxing break and that’s what we got! We were instantly made to feel welcome by the whole family and we were even given a tour of Freddie’s bird collection which was very interesting and really kind of him! Hollings Hill is a working farm with all the comings and goings as you’d expect - the safari tents are well equipped but with no electricity so we had lots of fun lighting candles and fires for the hot tub and cooking. One tip is to take a flask so you can have a hot drink first thing whilst waiting for the stove to fire up. Beds are comfy and surprisingly warm. This is a ‘back to basics’ break and we found that we really relaxed properly due to this. Thanks for having us, we can’t wait to come back!
