Escape to a simpler life with Filip and Ann

Discover Hoeve den Overdraght in the Flemish Poperinge. On this modern farm, Filip, Ann and their children live together with their beautiful Jersey cows and sheep. The cows are known for their super creamy milk! Farmer Filip is always busy somewhere, can you help him feed the dairy cows, collect straws or do some field work? The tents are set up around the playground.

Hiking, cycling or a day at the amusement park?: it's all possible!

Crazy about donkeys? Neighbour Pat will tell you everything about these animals! Poperinge is the ideal base for a walking or cycling tour. The children will not be bored here either: what about a visit to the Hoppemuseum, the Kinderbrouwerij, Beauvoorde Castle or the Cordoba cable car. Fan of K3, Bumba or Kabouter Plop? Then a day at Plopsaland is definitely a must! The real daredevils would probably prefer Bellewaerde amusement park. On the beach of De Panne, you can go sand yachting and kite surfing. You can also cross the border to France or visit Lille. There are more than enough to discover!

What to do on Hoeve den Overdraght

Watch the farmer milk the cows and learn about the rare sheep breeds. Ann will show you what you can make with the wool of the sheep during a workshop. One of the farm’s biggest assets is the farmers' pool, great to dive into on a hot summer day! After swimming you can get a nice ice cream in the honesty shop. Get together in the tent, cook on the wood stove and enjoy the last rays of sunshine. When it gets dark, it is time to light the oil lamps and relax in your comfy beds.

Pizza Night

The farmer will usually fire up the pizza oven during your stay. Everyone gathers round to tell their stories of the day’s adventures and invent pizza toppings you’ll never find on the high street

Ask the Farmer

The farm tour is a must if it’s on offer. But you don’t wait till then. The farmer will be delighted to tell you more about how what goes on at the farm at any time.

The Farm Shop

It’s great for the basics and usually even better for local produce and low food miles. And every Feather Down farm shop operates on an honesty basis.

Meet your hosts

Ann and Filip

We chose the name Overdraght. This formerly meant a dock: a quay along waterways where they sometimes had to pay a toll to be allowed to sail a particular stretch of water. Now we are a welcoming haven for anyone who wants to visit and get to meet and find out about breeds of sheep of a variety hard to find these days.

We had a really lovely time at Hoeve den Overdraght, and would highly recommend it to other families. Ann was so welcoming and helpful, going out of her way to ensure we had what we needed, from firewood to local maps. She gave us a tour of the farm, telling us about how it worked and introducing the children to rabbits and kittens (which they could go and play with) and of course how to check for eggs. Two calves were born while we were there, and we saw one of the births! The tents are well stocked, and the farm shop has all the bits you need if you don't make it to the shops - meat from the farm was really tasty, and there was even coal for the bbq. All in all, it was a relaxing and fun experience, with everything we needed for a good break. What made it really special was the hosts - Ann's kind and friendly welcome made us feel like guests rather than renters. The journey from Calais was straightforward and short, making this a really accessible location from the UK. We'd definitely consider going back.

The whole family had a great time. The tent was clean and tidy with all the equipment that you need for your stay. The site itself was good with a trampoline, swings and a rustic swimming pool for the kids...an adults on some occasions. The tents are a little too near to the cow sheds as the flies can become a little tedious after a while but its the nature of a dairy farm I suppose. The toilet was leaking in the inlet which put water all over the bathroom floor. The staff were aware of the problem with the toilet but were unable to fix it when we stayed.Ann the owner was very welcome and always willing to assist with any issues you may have and knowledgeable about the area. There is good cycling in the area with marked cycle lanes on all the major roads which are away from the main carriageway, and I was happy for my 7 year old to cycle along them with no issues. The family would go back to this site.
