Escape to a simpler life with Peter and Sarah

New to Feather Down in 2021, this farm lies at the end of a dead-end country lane in the natural paradise that is the Somerset Levels. Run by Peter and Sarah, the place is teeming with wildlife from barn owls to wild deer, as well as domesticated animals for you to get up close and personal with. The Ouessant sheep (the smallest natural breed in the world) and their lambs in Spring enjoy meeting guests especially when you feed them with Peter! There's stunning south-facing views for 20 miles to Dorset and the coast on a clear day, which delighted the Sunday Times who gave it a front page feature in 2021 as an ideal base for a family holiday near Glastonbury.

The great outdoors in the South-West

When you emerge from your comfy bed in the morning, it is a question of which Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty it is for today as there are three on your doorstep - the Blackdown Hills, Mendip Hills or Quantock Hills, all perfect for hiking and cycling. As far as more urban charms are concerned, Glastonbury is famous for King Arthur and the world’s best music festival is 30 minutes away - if you're lucky enough to get tickets! Your host Peter is a big foodie so he’ll be able to furnish you with all the food and restaurant tips you’ll need throughout your holiday in Glastonbury.

What to do at Glastonbury Hill Farm

If you don’t want to venture so far afield, Glastonbury Hill Farm offers a wide selection of beautiful walks to stretch your legs but you are also welcome to just relax and take in the breath-taking views - in fact it is the ideal spot for a family holiday near Glastonbury. Children can enjoy the swings, slide and climbing frame to keep them busy while you take in the fresh country air and beautiful scenery. Although not a commercial farm, Peter takes great pride in rewilding the landscape and allowing natural species to thrive. You will have everything you need in your canvas hideaway to make your holiday complete, from comfy beds to a wood-fired stove and private showers.

Perfect Easter Getaway. Peter is a wonderfully attentive host with great tips and local history and facts. So much to do locally but also peaceful to spend time at the farm with a glass of wine from the honesty shop looking across the valley at the vineyard it came from.

Our stay at Featherdown Glastonbury was awesome. Exploring the countryside with the kids and making dinner on woodstoves. A real wind-down holiday that we very much needed!

We always love our Featherdown holidays and this one was no exception. Peter was a wonderfully attentive host from the stocking of the farm shop with local produce, to the cleanliness of the tents & site, to the readiness to help fix any issues. The views are stunning and the farm is really well placed for beautiful walks and a fascinating trip to Glastonbury Tor. All in all a great holiday and even the weather was kind!

We had a fantastic time. The most relaxing weekend with superb views, great local activities and lovely food. The experience was made all the better by our wonderful host, Peter who arranged some lovely activities for the kids, warmed us up with beautiful local mulled cider and had a fantastic honesty shop full of local goodies and free eggs! The view from the tent is to die for.

This was our first visit to a Featherdown farm and we had a brilliant stay. The tent is so well organised - beds so comfortable, great cooking facilities and the outdoor shower was wonderful. The view at Hill Farm was stunning. Peter our host was so welcoming, with pre-visit emails and texts and was full of useful information for trips when we got there. Our boys loved collecting eggs and feeding the sheep with him. We arrived weary and left relaxed, happy and rested having spent quality time together as a family. Big thank you to Peter.

We had a lovely stay. Hill Farm is beautiful and had everything we needed. Our girls loved making new friends, playing in the play area, and egg collecting and animal feeding time. We enjoyed sitting round the campfire toasting marshmallows and looking out at the beautiful view. Peter was a great, accommodating, friendly host. This was our first Featherdown experience and we loved it. We'll be back for more!

We had a wonderful and memorable stay at Hill Farm. Peter is an exceptional host, incredibly helpful, kind and thoughtful. The children loved feeding the farm animals with him and collecting the eggs. Peter provided an extremely comprehensive list of places to visit and things to do prior to our stay enabling us to plan a fun and varied break. Highlights included a family cycle ride (we hired the bikes locally), canoeing at Maunsel Lock, Glastonbury Tor, and delicious ice creams and cakes in Somerton. The site set up allowed the children to make friends easily and play while we relaxed at the end of the day!

Such a wonderful weekend with Peter as our host. He couldn’t have been more gracious in his approach and his kindness toward our party. This site has the most amazing views and a pub within walking distance. We have been to FeatherDown’s many times and this wins hands down

What a fabulous location with gorgeous views. Such a tonic. Lots to do nearby but equally good just to chill on-site and enjoy the space and tranquillity. Great location for kids and dogs. Peter is a wonderful host and nothing is too much trouble. He made us feel very welcome.

Loved the Featherdown experience, even in the unpredictable weather of a British summer. Unseasonal cold and rain meant we could make the most of being cosy by the stove and candlelight. The break was really made by our host Peter, who made us all very welcome and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. He has stocked the honesty shop with delicious provisions, all carefully selected local and organic produce. A great stay at Glastonbury Hill farm, thanks.

The farm shop

It’s great for the basics and usually even better for local produce and low food miles. And every Feather Down farm shop operates on an honesty basis.
