Escape to a simpler life with the team at Bucklebury Farm

77 acres of rolling parkland just off the M4 will be your Feather Down on this glorious Berkshire farm and deer safari park - the ideal spot for a family holiday near London. You’ll also meet pigs, goats, Dexter cattle, ponies, donkeys, chickens, rabbits, guinea fowl and even reindeer at this veritable menagerie.

Downton Abbey and real-life royalty

Only a 15 minute stroll from the farm, Bucklebury village is recorded in the Domesday Book and was the home of Kate Middleton before she married Prince William. Drive a bit further and you’ll come across Highclere, the fictional setting for the TV series Downton Abbey. The area also has its fair share of eateries with The Woodspeen enjoying a Michelin star, and numerous award winning pubs and restaurants.

What to do at Bucklebury Reading Farm

Wake up from your comfy beds in the morning and take part in farm activities like tractor rides or “be a farmer for the day” where you get to go behind the scenes. Unleash the children to explore the playground, take a go-kart for a spin around the farm or play games in the den-building area - what could be better for a family holiday near London?

Whilst they get creative, you can enjoy a ‘forest bathing’ in the calm of the woodland’s nature trail, which offers a rich variety of beautiful flora and fauna. After an active day around the farm, cosy up around the wood stove and complete your night with a dinner over candle-light.

Bucklebury does not allow guests to bring their dogs due to the resident animals on site. Also check-in needs to happen by 7pm when the park closes.

Ask the farmer

The farm tour is a must if it’s on offer during your stay. But you don’t wait till then. The farmer will be delighted to tell you more about farm life at any time.

The farm shop

It’s great for the basics and usually even better for local produce and low food miles. And every Feather Down farm shop operates on an honesty basis.

The holiday was very successful, the conditions in the tent were very good and the staff tried their best to help in cases where we needed help. The whole site is very diverse, well maintained and offers many activities for children of all ages. I highly recommend anyone who wants a heart-felt nature with his family to think about a vacation at such a site

Mr Rogers

As it was our first time glamping and i was looking after 3 girls and 2 women. at times challenging when cooking for everyone and keeping the fire lit as they enjoy there comfort too much. personally i think you guys have a great set up and very acomodating to all. The kids had a ball and loved the animals.

Mrs Laidlow

We had a magical stay at Feather Down Bucklebury with our 3 and 6 year olds. The site was in a secluded part of a farm park, which meant there was loads of brilliant play areas during the day to keep the kids busy but it felt very private when we went back to the lodges too. It was also magical being there after closing time when the visitors had left and we had the run of the outdoor play areas just for the Featherdown guests. The tractor ride to see and feed the deer was an amazing experience for adults and kids alike, and the kids were wowed by the egg collecting too. The staff were all very friendly and we are already planning our return for next year.

Mrs Allen

The place was wonderful and the kids loved having access to the animal farm. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We went with other families and we had the best time!

Mr Dikker Hupkes

Relaxed, adventurous and a lovely memorable experience

Mrs Behier Tull

We had an amazing weekend stay at Bucklebury. The tent was well equipped, the wood burning stove was brilliant and the staff at the farm could not have been more helpful and friendly. The kids had a wonderful time in the playground and feeding all the animals. A truly magical weekend for all of us. Thank you guys.

Mrs Higgins

Good fun although position of site not the best I have experienced.

Mr Lane

Amazing experience, having the farm and park to yourself after all the day visitors left made it extra special.

Mrs Knapman

Great fun.

Mrs Jones

Fantastic stay, the things for young children to do are amazing. So peaceful and feeding the deer was a highlight. Amazing hosts always responded quickly and nothing too much travel. Can’t wait to go back next year

Ms Garey Desbordes

We had a fantastic time. It would have been helpful to have known that all duvets are single, and that the double bed is a king, in order to have brought the correct size bedding. Also, would have been good to know that coffee beans and tea are provided. Minor points though, overall, we thought the set up was excellent!

Mr Eynon

Second visit and still a lovely welcoming weekend break.

Mrs DeMarchi

Absolutely lovely weekend! The location was beautiful, tents clean and the staff were so friendly and helpful - especially Chris. Really appreciated the option for a late check-out. An added bonus was all the great facilities and play areas around the farm. The tractor ride to see the deer was wonderful!

Mrs Gorman

Excellent getaway - so enjoyable

Mrs Highman

Fun, simple family break on a amazingly run friendly farm.

Mr Sant

Great fun

Mrs Bawden

An absolutely brilliant weekend for us all! The kids had the greatest time, as did the adults...can't wait to go back sometime!

Mrs Smale

This stay was disappointing. There was no welcome at the location and it felt as though we were 'left to it'. There was no orientation given like we have had at other sites. The tents were not cleaned properly - so are clearly not adhering to current regulations. We found earrings belonging to a previous occupant in one tent and there was loads of dust under all the beds. I had to ask 3 times to get a bed sheet. The candles were half burnt (in the current circumstances we would expect these to be new). There were no signs coming into the site to indicate that we were at a Featherdown location. There was one small fridge for the use of 5 tents which was too small. The honesty shop was lacking in essentials. It felt as though we had to keep spending extra money in the farm shop rather than being able to access items via the honesty shop. The tents were located too far from the fridge and phone charging areas. The site could really benefit from having an area for glampers near the tents with these items in. There were no sink plugs which made washing up difficult - again not ideal with a pandemic. The site could do with regularly topping up hand sanitiser as it was empty around some play areas. A nice touch would be to provide some in the tents. When we left we were not asked if we had enjoyed our stay. It just felt as though we were another transaction. On the positive side the showers were excellent - far better than the other Featherdown locations we have stayed at. The children in our group loved the animals and play areas.

Ms Nabavian

Lovely getaway with the kids, facilities were excellent and everyone had a lovely time.

A total get-away.

Mrs Caffarate
