Escape to a simpler life with Bartjan and Bertha

Discover our brand new Netherlands farm in Oostwold, Groningen. Botter means butter and heerd is the Groningen name for farm. Bartjan and Bertha enjoy living here with their daughters Femke and Maud and their dogs Nora and Mia. They are the fourth generation on their family farm, which is more than a hundred years old. More than 70 dairy cows and approximately 40 young cattle live on the farm. Calves are born all year round, so you may see new-borns during your stay!

Discover the vast Groningen area

Oostwold is a small village in beautiful Groningen. You will find a varied landscape with vast meadows, picturesque villages, lakes and of course the Wadden Sea, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. You'll enjoy nature, space and silence. Go for a walk, cycle or enjoy the water together. Do you need a little more excitement? The bustling city of Groningen is nearby, a 15-minute drive from Botterheerd and you will be at the foot of the Martini Tower, surrounded by shops and restaurants.

Things to do on the farm

At Botterheerd, the outdoors is the perfect playground! Come and play in the sand and water activities, meet your favourite animals in the cuddle barn or explore the stream with a fishing net to look for fish and aquatic animals. When the weather is nice, you can even go paddle boarding in the waters of Groningen, straight from the farm. Even if it rains, you will have plenty of fun at Botterheerd. Borrow a board game from the farm shop, or buy a craft kit that you can enjoy in your canvas hideaway.

Help Bartjan and Bertha feed the cows, give the calves milk, or feed one of the other animals, such as the funny guinea fowl. Do you dare to enter their cage? In the farm honesty shop, you can order fresh bread and breakfast has also been taken into account. You just have to collect fresh eggs from the chicken coop. Or make your own pancakes with the pancake package from the farm shop, prepared with fresh cow's milk.

Bartjan and Bertha and their daughters Femke and Maud

Moi! That's Grunnegs for 'hello.' We are Bartjan and Bertha, and we warmly welcome you to the Groningen countryside. You'll be staying on our family farm, which is over a hundred years old. We would love to teach you about our dairy farm with over 70 cows and calves born all year round. It's perfect for children, they can play on the fun playground equipment, riding the go-karts, or have fun splashing in the water and sand pits. Hopefully we'll see you soon!

Leekstermeer

You can swim, rent boats and cycle at this lovely lake. The lake has two pavilions: Pavilion Pool and Pavilion Cnossen.

Lettelberterpetten plankenpad

You will find this nice walking path just a stone's throw from Botterheerd. This is a nice walk with children, the surroundings are beautiful!

Roden and Norg

These two picturesque Drenthe villages are definitely worth a visit. Near Norg you will also find beautiful forests with beautiful walking routes for the whole family, including the Struin & Duin experience trail.

Groningen

Groningen is nearby and well worth a visit. This vibrant city has a pleasant city centre, nice shops and good restaurants. And you can climb the Martini Tower. In addition, many fun events are organized, such as Noorderzon in the summer months.

Nienoord estate

In this outdoor playground with swimming pool you will find more than 80 attractions and play equipment, in the middle of the woods on the beautiful Nienoord Estate.
