Although we look forward to beautiful spring days and balmy summer weather to explore the great outdoors, there's no denying the fact that British weather can be unpredictable. It can be somewhat challenging when exploring on an outdoor holiday or staying in a glamping accommodation and the heavens decide to open on your fun adventure.

That being said, a rainy day is by no means the end of a successful camping or glamping trip and with a little pre-planning and inventiveness, a day of bad weather could turn out to be one of the best on your trip! (If you don't believe us, read our guest feedback below!). To help you prepare for the possibility of rain on your next Feather Down glamping adventure, we’ve compiled 5 of our favourite activities for rainy days below.

1. Board games

Before screens and games consoles became a daily occurrence, family time spent playing cards or board games was the main evening entertainment. We are pleased to have a various of games available at our farms from Orchard Toys, whether you want to play an animal matching game or a maths puzzle activity. Borrow one from the honesty shop and enjoy some wholesome family time in your cosy hideaway no matter what the weather outside.

2. Craft activity

Who doesn't love some time spent crafting or creating something new. If you have a chance to gather materials, grab some natural craft materials including sticks, leaves, moss, pebbles and flowers and use them to create a nature picture. If you're feeling adventurous, why not craft a bug hotel with stones and twigs to create a habit for insects and bugs nearby. Take a look at our Bug Hotel guide here. Or if you fancy something a little tastier, why not re-create a landscape out of food products - couscous/rice fields and broccoli trees anyone?

3. Colouring and activity books

A great rainy day activity for any age, dive into a world of creativity and relaxation with colouring and activity books. Bring some from home or you'll often find an activity sheet in the farm honesty shop at your Feather Down farm. Often, you'll find the pitter patter of the rain enhances your focus and artistic expression so challenge yourself with puzzles, mazes, and brain teasers, turning a rainy day into a fun experience for all.

4. Walk in the woods

The rain doesn't need to mean the end of outdoor adventures! Grab your waterproofs and venture into a wooded area, where the trees and forest environment will naturally provide some cover from the elements. Observe the lush greenery and wildlife thriving in the rain, immersing yourself in the sights, sounds, and scents of nature for an invigorating experience.

5. Muddy puddle jumping

Embrace your inner child and make a splash by jumping into muddy puddles, revelling in the simple joys of rain-induced puddle hopping. Typically young children love this activity and it's great for adventure and burning off some energy! Pop on wellies and waterproofs trousers to keep yourselves dry and warm and go wild! The laughter and joy on your child's face will soon make you forget about the rainy weather, and immerse you in those carefree moments to treasure together.

At the end of your adventures on the farm, you'll be sure to have a cosy evening in front of your hot wood burning stove, thick duvets and snuggly beds, where the rain pitter-pattering on the roof will lull you into a deep, restful sleep, ready for the new day of fun!
