Escape to a simpler life with Kate and James

Located in the heart of the Mendips, this 1,000 acre farm stretches the length of Cheddar Gorge - the ideal spot for a family holiday in Somerset. You will get a peek into the world of sheep and cattle farming with the Small family who have been a part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme and Red Tractor accredited for over 20 years. Formerly known as Feather Down Cheddar Gorge, Warren Farm welcomes hundreds of lambs during May before they graze land for the National and Somerset Wildlife Trusts. Its wide-open expanses also welcome film crews – you may have seen Warren Farm in episodes of One Man and His Dog, Casualty and Poldark, to name but a few.

Explore the Mendips

Cheddar Gorge has been voted the second greatest natural wonder in Britain, so try the stunning 60 minutes (subject to ability!) Gorge walk to Cheddar and visit the home of its last cheese producer, Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company. Want a city buzz? Bristol and Bath are just 40 minutes away. If you’re feeling beachy, take a trip to the Weston-super-Mare, a 30-minute drive. Somerset has so much to offer and at Warren Farm you are ideally placed for a family holiday in Somerset.

What to do at Warren Farm

With its awe-inspiring size, the farm makes a great natural playground but there is also a real one with its slides, swings and sand pits. While the children play, sit outside on the deck chairs with your favourite book or indulge in some bookable hamper options provided by local suppliers. There's a communal barn with table tennis and table football, along with charging points for any essentials. Experience a tractor and trailer ride around the farm where you'll learn more about farm life in the hills (small fee applies, subject to availability during school holidays). Once the sun sets, marshmallows and hot chocolate from the honesty shop make a great evening treat. Share your adventures round the campfire at the day’s end watching the sunset, before retiring to your comfortable bed.

There is electric car charging available at Warren farm.

Perfect place for newbie glampers who have been converted. We’ve been on lots of Featherdown holidays but this time we were going with friends that were hesitant about glamping. I rang Featherdown and they recommended Warren Farm for newbies as it has a really good honesty shop, indoor ‘barn’ space if it rains and a beautiful walk down Cheddar Gorge from the campsite. They weren't wrong!

Our best ever family holiday. Kate and James were wonderful hosts we learnt a lot about farming life and a working farm. The opportunity to all be off grid, spending our time in nature each with a job or responsibility to keep our little camp going was a joyous and wholesome experience. We’ve always opted for holidays abroad or Center Parcs but we loved the whole experience of Warren Farm so much it has changed our view and our approach to UK holidays.

Our favourite Feather Down experience so far! Warren Farm is such a beautiful, well thought out site - the play park and goat paddock were big hits with the children, there's a great indoor rumpus room for rainy days and the honesty shop is very thoughtfully stocked. The location of the site is brilliant - very close to Cheddar, Wookey etc and there are some brilliant walks from the campsite (maps provided). Our hosts were wonderful - pizza night was brilliant and generous and we loved the farm tour. A perfect break all round!

Wholesome tech free family time in a beautiful setting. Our canvas hideaway was gorgeous, everyone wants to come back. The cupboard bed was a real hit. James and Kate were great hosts. We highly recommend the farm tour, James had so much to tell us about the farm from farming animals to the geology of the area. Thanks for a great stay.

We loved our stay at featherdown. We stayed in a cabin with 2 young children and a dog. Lots to do and see. Very peaceful on the farm. The site was more organised than others we have stayed at - the pizza night and farm tour were both great

Warren Farm is a fabulous place to stay. We stayed in a safari tent which had fantastic views over to Cheddar Gorge. We took our 3 year old who loved the freedom of running around and seeing the animals. She particularly enjoyed the play areas. The honesty shop was well stocked and we were impressed with the communal shower areas. The hosts were lovely. We would stay again.

Highlight

Pizza Night

The farmer will usually fire up the pizza oven during your stay. Everyone gathers round to tell their stories of the day’s adventures and invent pizza toppings you’ll never find on the high street

Blue tractor with trailer attached with people inside

Highlight

Ask the Farmer

The farm tour is a must if it’s on offer during your stay, but you don’t have to wait until then. The farmer will be delighted to tell you more about farm life at any time.

Highlight

The Farm Shop

It’s great for the basics and usually even better for local produce and low food miles. And every Feather Down farm shop operates on an honesty basis.
