Escape to a simpler life with Anna and Will

If you live in London what could be easier than the hour’s drive to discover Feather Down’s first farm? Will and Anna Brock hosted our first ever guests back in 2006 and most of the national press since then, the most recent being the Sun who wrote a feature on Manor Farm in 2021. Now joined by their children Daisy and Bertie, they farm cattle, sheep and arable crops in what must be one of the best spots for a family holiday in the South Downs National Park. Your capacious home will look out across the old farm orchard and the fields of wheat, barley, rapeseed and lavender grown in this buccolic corner of Hampshire.

Roam free on the South Downs

If you can’t bear to chill out a moment longer on the farm, there’s tons to do around and about. You are based in the South Downs National Park but there is more than just natural beauty on offer here. For the book-ish, both young and old, Thomas the Tank Engine is a frequent visitor to the Watercress Line, whilst the houses of our first naturalist, Gilbert White and one of our foremost novelists, Jane Austen, are a stone’s throw away in Selborne and Chawton respectively. The more active can range further afield to West Wittering, an hour away on the coast, or to Frensham for a dose of wild swimming.

What to do at Manor Farm

If you are on the farm during the day, you can wake up without a plan and let your imagination run riot. Just hang out, hunt for wood in the hedgerow to build a campfire, make up a treasure hunt, enjoy one of Anna’s walks, explore the local area and play board games. If you are lucky enough to have a hot tub, take the time to sit and soak. When night falls Manor Farm is unique amongst Feather Downs as each of you have your own fire pit in front of your home from home. Hearty stews, toasted marshmallows, mega barbies and campfire songs await before retiring for dream-filled sleep in your comfy beds - where could be better for a family holiday in the South Downs?

Going without electricity is our greatest luxury

Pizza night

The farmer will usually fire up the pizza oven during your stay. Everyone gathers round to tell their stories of the day’s adventures and invent pizza toppings you’ll never find on the high street

Ask the farmer

The farm tour is a must if it’s on offer. But you don’t wait till then. The farmer will be delighted to tell you more about what goes on at the farm at any time.

The farm shop

It’s great for the basics and usually even better for local produce and low food miles. And every Feather Down farm shop operates on an honesty basis.

We booked the holiday as a family holiday with two small children as a pre wedding honeymoon and had a fantastic time. We would like to return as soon as we can. The accommodation couldn’t have been better for our needs and was superbly and immaculately presented. Will and Anna went out of their way to make us feel welcome and we are hugely grateful to all at Manor Farm for making us feel so at home straight away. The views and surroundings were stunning and the honesty shop which we highly recommend provided us with substantial food and drink packages throughout. All in all an absolute delight and the best UK holiday we have had to date!

An experience! We cannot fault Anne, she was very helpful and polite however the log cabin is in serious need of a deep clean. There is evidence of woodworm in the furniture which needs to be addressed. I appreciate we are out in the country but there is no need to have to stay in a dirty place. We had to make sure we emptied the wood burner, swept the cabin out, remove our rubbish which wasn't a problem, however for the price we paid I would have expected to have found the cabin clean and tidy to start with! Just take a look at the cobwebs on the shower curtain to know that it hasn't been dusted in weeks. I thought glamping would be a luxury camping experience but we have been left feeling robbed and the price we paid was certainly not worth it.

It is great to get away, have some fresh air and some family time away from the telly. Anna as always is very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Unfortunately there wasn’t any farm tour due to the restrictions but there are sheep in the field in front of us and chickens roaming outside to remind us that we are in a working farm

What a wonderful weekend for our children, roaming on the campsite and playing in the hot tub. Manor Farm is in a lovely location, so quiet and beautiful - the only noises were the owls hooting around at dawn! Anna is such a great host and has ensured that each tent is cosy and comfortable and that you have everything you need. The honesty shop had just what you might need but had forgotten - the honey is delicious and thank you for including ice cubes! We loved the outdoor shower too.

After spending lockdown in London, a few days at Manor Farm was a very welcome change for our whole family (including 4 teenage kids and a dog). It is in a beautiful part of Hampshire, with many great walks. The tents are well spaced out and comfortable and the honesty shop was excellent - we would recommend the stew cooked over an open fire. Anna was very welcoming and helpful.
