Escape to a simpler life with Andrew

Three generations of Dunlops have farmed this spot on the Sussex coast for over a hundred years, currently with Romney ewes, cross-bred cows, calves and Eiger the Aberdeen Angus bull. Along with rearing and caring for the livestock, Andrew grows potatoes and keeps free-range chickens. Your cosy canvas hideaways nestle among a group of trees on a stretch of higher ground, the perfect vantage point to take in the stunning sea views.

Sussex coastal life

The beach is only a 10-minute walk away from your tent, making this an ideal spot for a family holiday on the Sussex coast. Many of our guests linger so long there that they join the beach club and become regulars at the Red Pig food truck, in itself a five star attraction. On the way you will cross meadows and marshland full of rare and endangered species, part of the Pett Level Preservation Trust.
Nearby are the old Saxon shoreline of Sussex and the royal Military Canal, dug to repel Napoleon 200 years ago. Further along the coast to the east are the dunes of Camber Sands and the other worldly beauty of the Dungeness peninsula, with the smallest passenger railway in the world and the largest shingle beach in Europe. Rye and Winchelsea are two ancient charming towns just a short drive away. In the other direction you soon get to Hastings, home to the UK’s largest beach-based fishing fleet and its characterful old town along with Hastings Country Park.

What to do at Lunsford Farm

There’s always something to discover or explore at Lunsford. Roaming the farm will uncover some of the beautiful original farm buildings as well as a possible water vole sighting at any of the several ponds. Admire the sea views or simply stroll around the farm and its meadows – the Royal Oak with its boules pitch is just a few minutes away. The farm’s salt-marsh lamb is a must, for your stove or for pizza night. You will also be tempted by the farm’s shower block with its under-floor heating – it’s one of the best!

Een hele fijne vakantie gehad. Prachtige locatie van de tent. Mooi uitzicht over de schapenweide en de zee. Mooie route om naar de tenten te stappen: tussen de weides. Vriendelijke ontvangst.

Our third annual family visit to Lunsford farm & once again we were not disappointed. Now the little ones are running around the site is enclosed so they are safe. Plenty of space for family fun & games. We were lucky with lots of sunshine but nice shady areas around the tents. BBQs great for cooking & tents very comfortable. Showers are an enjoyable short walk across the farm kids loved the sheep and lambs on the way. Great location for the beach. We'll definitely be returning with our growing family. Thanks Andrew & Caroline.

We had a great time, as always! It's a special place for us to which we have returned often with our closest friends and family. Andrew and family are great, the views are amazing, the shop perfectly stocked and the shower block warm, clean, bright and very welcome at the end of a long day in the countryside! The four tents are perfectly spaced, not too close together.

We had all a wonderful time. The children could play freely and they definitely made wonderful memories this weekend. The place is very safe and perfect for young ( and not so young) children. The first night we made a bbq with the lovely meat from the bbq box the provided and the day after we had a pizza night. The pizza was amazing! The sea is very near.

Returning for a second visit to Lunsford Farm for what seems be "an annual family" trip. We were not disappointed. So lucky to have fabulous weather. The views are amazing. We spent most of our time on the farm. Having three tents together we were able to have fun with outdoor games or find a quiet spot to enjoy the views.Tents are in an enclosed area so good if you have small children. Pleasant walk up to the farmhouse to use the showers. Thank you

This is the 10th year of our May trips and it is truely a special place. Andrew and Caroline make the visit super special, nothing is too much trouble and we are always made to feel so welcome. My only criticism is that the BBQ's could do with being updated, we have never had any success cooking on them and this year brought our own.

We(all 21 of us) had a great long weekend. We were however very disappointed that the kids couldn’t collect eggs each morning as there was no hen coup, we’ve been to two other Featherdown farms collecting eggs was one of the highlights of the day. We were also disappointed not to get a tour of the farm so it didn’t really feel like we were staying on a farm, could have been any camp site!

We had the perfect family holiday. The location is beautiful, tents comfortable, Andrew and family welcoming and lots of great and very different beaches to visit. The children (3, 5, 8y) were very happy just playing in the wood next to the tent. Highly recommended.

It feels like the people at Featherdown have figured out exactly what the key perks and total joys are to camping and then got rid of the icky bits that make camping less enjoyable and harder work. We found the whole experience truly magical from the views, and surrounding area to the little touches in the canvas lodges that you wouldn’t normally get at home. We’re so obsessed with the hand coffee grinder that we got one for our kitchen!

Absolute bliss. Just having that space, with that exclusive view felt like an honour to be there. The tents were so cozy, everything has been thought of. A big part was connecting to nature, we loved seeing the baby lambs everywhere and enjoying a bonfire in the exclusive private bluebell woods!

Had a lovely break at Lunsford Farm, the view from our tent was amazing. Andrew and Caroline are fab hosts. The tents are closer together than other Featherdowns that I have visited, but they are still a good distance apart (10 metres or so) so I didn't feel this was a negative at all. I would highly recommend the tent that we stayed in (tent 1) as it has a beautiful view over the fields and the sea which is so lovely to wake up to in the morning. The shower facilities are excellent on Lunsford, clean, warm and spacious.

We just returned from Lunsford farm & were plesently surprised of how spaceious & well equipped the tent was. Although the bedding space is a bit tight, we were able to sleep 5 adults comfortably. The rustic feel makes the stay that more enjoyable especially being able to sit around the dining table in the evenings. We would definately return, although we might try a different location. Only downside is the tents were more closer together then expected, although we still had our own privacy. Would recommend to family & friends.

Meet your hosts

Andrew

Together with the team, I welcome you to Lunsford Farm where three generations of the Dunlop family have farmed in this unique coastal location for over a hundred years. We look forward to meeting you and sharing this beautiful place with you.
