Cwmberach Uchaf Farm means ‘the upper valley of the river Berach’ in Welsh and it covers 55 acres of wild beauty on the western side of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Nature flourishes unchecked at this traditional Welsh farm that has been part of the Mark and Sarah Dempster’s family for generations – a stay here is like being in your own private 'Springwatch'. The animals are very special too with unusual sheep breeds such as the Badger Face Welsh Mountain, bees in their hives, chickens, goats and pigs - new-born lambs and piglets are a special spring-time treat. Your canvas hideaway is situated in a sheltered corner of the farm with amazing views south and west over the Amman valley and towards the Gower peninsula. If you are looking to get away from it all and re-balance in nature with a family holiday in the Brecon Beacons, Cwmberach Uchaf is for you.
Carreg Cennen castle can be reached via a beautiful five mile walking route over the Brecon Beacons. Perched 900 feet over the river, it has been voted Britain’s most romantic castle by the readers of Countryfile magazine. Llandeilo is a lovely old market town with boutiques and cafes only 6 miles away. The lakes of Llyn y Fan Fach and Lyn y Fan Fawr, both carved out by glaciers, make a good day trip, whilst there is pony trekking at Pentre Riding Stables and a red kite feeding station at Llandddeusant in the unlikely event that you don’t spot one over the farm. There is more than enough to do on your family holiday in the Brecon Beacons at Cwmberach Uchaf.
The farm’s landscape has all you would expect from a National Park - pasture, moorland, woodland and mountains give you a genuine “away from it all” feeling. There were 15 years before Mark and Sarah took over in which the farm was left to return to nature so it has a ‘re-wilding’ feel to it, a real life nature reserve and home for badgers, foxes, owls, red kites and rare cuckoos and hen harriers - learn more when you take part in Mark’s farm tour, a master class in sustainable farming. On the way back, don’t forget to stop off at the honesty shop where you can buy locally produced honey and order meat boxes from the local butcher to cook over your outdoor barbecue before watching the night sky from this official Dark Sky Reserve.
