Escape to a simpler life with Elena and Ed

Wambrook is run by the Ed, Elena and the Eames family where you’ll learn lots about organic and sustainable farming. It is a mixed farm with wheat and barley crops as well as sheep and Aberdeen Angus cattle and they also have a solar farm and biomass heating. Your tents are located throughout the farm’s meadow and boast stunning views of the Blackdown Hills, the ideal spot for a family holiday in Somerset and Dorset.

Enjoy the best of Somerset and Dorset

You are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so make the most of the charms of the landscape and villages around you. Further afield, there is much to discover. Why not pop down to the beach at Lyme Regis 30 minutes away, the ‘Pearl of Dorset’ and stop on the way for a traditional afternoon tea. For something a little different, Forde Abbey and gardens, Fleet Air Museum, Crealy Adventure Park, and Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary are all within easy reach.

What to do at Wambrook Farm

Your canvas hideaway is the perfect place to relax and play. Local wildlife abounds in the surrounding fields. The village pub is just a short walk away and comes highly recommended as does the well stocked honesty shop. After a full day on the farm, tuck yourselves into your comfy beds for a good night’s sleep.

Going without electricity is our greatest luxury

Pizza night

The farmer will usually fire up the pizza oven during your stay. Everyone gathers round to tell their stories of the day’s adventures and invent pizza toppings you’ll never find on the high street

Ask the farmer

The farm tour is a must if it’s on offer. But you don’t wait till then. The farmer will be delighted to tell you more about what goes on at the farm at any time.

The farm shop

It’s great for the basics and usually even better for local produce and low food miles. And every Feather Down farm shop operates on an honesty basis.

We had a really lovely week. Wambrook is absolutely beautiful with stunning views from the tent and we were lucky enough to have great weather too. There’s lots for the children explore which is what makes the holiday special for us!The kids LOVED the little copse behind the site - it was great fun but there are bits of metal, empty chemical cans and bits of barbed wire discarded in there and the rope swings weren’t really useable from where they’d been hung.A walk to the Cotley Inn for pizza was well worth it and we also took a trip to Chatmouth Beach for fossil hunting (which is taken very seriously - hammers, chisels and protective visors - we gave up and had fun in the rock pools instead!)There was minimal interaction from Ed and Elena (no farm tour or buggy rides for the kids). Ed’s parents were very friendly and it was great to chat to Ed’s father about the farm too. There aren’t any toys or books available to borrow from the honesty shop. No ice packs (maybe this is a covid thing), spare tea lights or firefighters were available). We didn’t find the garden for badminton either. We took a gas burner and it made life much easier - the kettle on the stove was just about boiled at lunchtime after putting it on at 7am!The lamb burgers we bought from the farm were delicious!Beautiful scenery, a full site so the children had lots of new friends to play with, warm duvets and the sun was shining! In all a lovely week.
