Escape to a simpler life with Lieneke en Jan

Discover Hoeve Zeeland in Veere. Nature, peace and quiet, picturesque towns and above all the beach and sea! You will find it all at this mixed farm that is Hoeve Zeeland. Here, farmer Jan and Lieneke will take you into the wonderful world of cauliflowers and milking cows! Your tent is waiting for you here in the middle of Zeeland's clay. With 75 dairy cows, a few beef cows and a few fields full of corn and cauliflower, farm life is always in full swing here!

Nice and Dutch: take the bike

Hop on your bike and within 15 minutes you are in the lively town of Veere. Tired of farm life? Find a cute little cafe in Middelburg. Next to the farm is a riding school. Choose your favourite horse (or pony) and take a ride through the Zeeland countryside. With a bit of luck, you might even get to brush them!

What to do on Hoeve Zeeland

Experience the birth of a calf or join in on the cauliflower harvest. The children will have fun in the hayloft. And you? You sit in the sun in front of your tent. In the afternoon, the children will come back to the tent with fresh vegetables from the honesty shop. Fire up the woodstove and start cooking! When it gets dark, it is time to light the oil lamps and relax in your comfy bed. Or will you first take a shower in your private shower by candlelight?

Pizza Night

The farmer will usually fire up the pizza oven during your stay. Everyone gathers round to tell their stories of the day’s adventures and invent pizza toppings you’ll never find on the high street

Ask the Farmer

The farm tour is a must if it’s on offer. But you don’t wait till then. The farmer will be delighted to tell you more about how what goes on at the farm at any time.

The Farm Shop

It’s great for the basics and usually even better for local produce and low food miles. And every Feather Down farm shop operates on an honesty basis.

Great farm, fabulous location, charming owner (who took time to explain many things to us about how she cares for the animals)...

We have stayed at featherdown farms in the UK before and really enjoyed every aspect of that visit, so were keen to visit again. Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing on many aspects. Whilst the tents themselves were as good as we remembered from our previous visits and the showers clean, the farm experience itself was a let down. The information on the website described this farm as having the facility to provide horse riding, an opportunity to watch the cows and generally get involved in the farm activities. However, we only really met the lady host and were not provided with any information on these activities or offered any opportunities for the children to get involved in the farm. Once we were shown tent and shop we were left entirely to our own devices and, whilst she was generally available if we wanted ask a question, they did not come and check if we were OK at all, not even after a very stormy night that saw torrential rain and heavy winds. The bikes we hired were in poor condition, forcing us to make frequent stops to reset the chain. The lamps in the tent had no wick. There was no charcoal in the shop despite BbQs available with each tent. The play barn which the children were looking forward to playing in was up very steep stairs with a steep drop on one side of the beam so we couldn't even let them play up there without constant adult supervision. Unfortunately this felt like a farm that needed money so decided to tag on a few tents but show no real interest in the guests. Such a shame as we were such big fans of featherdown.

Fantastic location to explore Zeeland by bike. The owners were friendly, helpful and spoke English which is great especially as our Dutch is limited! Would recommend this to anyone as a place to stay.

We had a wonderful time at the farm, the children loved running around with all the animals and playing in the hay barn and on the go-karts. It was lovely to get the opportunity to see the farm working and the children had us up really early to see the milking and also got to feed the calves. I would definitely recommend Featherdown to our friends and family as we had a brilliant time, in all weathers.

featherdown is never a let down. The kids love it every year and the farms are brilliant to explore and play for them while the adults relax and slow down.
