Escape to a simpler life with Peter and Sarah

Glastonbury Hill farm lies at the end of a country lane in the natural paradise that is the Somerset Levels. Run by Peter and Sarah, the place is teeming with wildlife from barn owls to wild deer, as well as domesticated animals for you to get up close and personal with. The Ouessant sheep (the smallest natural breed in the world) and their lambs in Spring enjoy meeting guests, especially when you feed them with Peter! There's stunning south-facing views for 20 miles to Dorset and the hills above Lyme Regis on a clear day, which delighted the Sunday Times who gave it a front page feature in 2021 as an ideal base for a family holiday near Glastonbury.

The great outdoors in the South-West

When you emerge from your comfy bed in the morning, it is a question of which Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty it is for today as there are three on your doorstep - the Blackdown Hills, Mendip Hills or Quantock Hills, all perfect for hiking and cycling. As far as more urban charms are concerned, Glastonbury is famous for King Arthur and the world’s best music festival is 30 minutes away - if you're lucky enough to get tickets! Your host Peter is a big foodie so he’ll be able to furnish you with all the food and restaurant tips you’ll need throughout your holiday in Glastonbury.

What to do at Glastonbury Hill Farm

If you don’t want to venture so far afield, Glastonbury Hill Farm offers a wide selection of beautiful walks to stretch your legs but you are also welcome to just relax and take in the breath-taking views - in fact it is the ideal spot for a family holiday near Glastonbury. Children can enjoy the swings, slide and climbing frame to keep them busy while you take in the fresh country air and beautiful scenery. Although not a commercial farm, Peter takes great pride in rewilding the landscape and allowing natural species to thrive. You will have everything you need in your canvas hideaway to make your holiday complete, from comfy beds to a wood-fired stove and private showers.

We had a glorious week on Peter’s farm. This was our 4th Featherdown Farm experience and it exceeded expectations. The view was stunning, the tents comfortable (as always) and Peter was delightful. He was so responsive and kind - nothing was too much trouble. The kids adored being free range and making new friends at the sweet play area. They loved the animals - especially the guinea fowl. Somerset was gorgeous. We had so many lovely day trips - rock climbing at Cheddar Gorge and exploring the caves, wandering around the funky shops of Glastonbury and walking up the Tor, visiting the beautiful Bishops palace to name a few. We are already planning our next Featherdown Farm holiday!

Our stay could not have been more perfect! I booked out the whole campsite for a wholesome hen party and everyone LOVED it! Our host Peter was so great and looked after us incredibly well. The site is beautiful and the facilities were fantastic with comfortable beds and hot showers. We had enough space to play silly games (such as a space hopper race) and had a silent disco under the stars in the evening. You can't hear any road noises and it really feels like you are out in the wild. If you are looking for an elevated 'camping' experience, THIS is the place to go! I could not recommend more highly. We're already planning our next visit.

We had a fabulous stay at Featherdown. The tents provide a huge amount of comfort without losing the charm and simplicity of camping. It also gave out to a beautiful view of the Somerset levels that you could die for. Peter was a brilliant host who helped provide advice on local attractions, gave advice on using his pizza oven (highly recommended) and was always on hand to ensure that everything with our holiday ran smoothly. Our kids (8, 5 and 5) enjoyed meeting the animals and made friends playing in the small playground. There was also a well stocked honesty shop with local wine, beer, cider and meat along with a few other "essentials" such as tea, coffee, matches, marshmallows etc. We can't wait to make a return trip.

Perfect Easter Getaway. Peter is a wonderfully attentive host with great tips and local history and facts. So much to do locally but also peaceful to spend time at the farm with a glass of wine from the honesty shop looking across the valley at the vineyard it came from.

We always love our Featherdown holidays and this one was no exception. Peter was a wonderfully attentive host from the stocking of the farm shop with local produce, to the cleanliness of the tents & site, to the readiness to help fix any issues. The views are stunning and the farm is really well placed for beautiful walks and a fascinating trip to Glastonbury Tor. All in all a great holiday and even the weather was kind!

This was our first visit to a Featherdown farm and we had a brilliant stay. The tent is so well organised - beds so comfortable, great cooking facilities and the outdoor shower was wonderful. The view at Hill Farm was stunning. Peter our host was so welcoming, with pre-visit emails and texts and was full of useful information for trips when we got there. Our boys loved collecting eggs and feeding the sheep with him. We arrived weary and left relaxed, happy and rested having spent quality time together as a family. Big thank you to Peter.

We had a lovely stay. Hill Farm is beautiful and had everything we needed. Our girls loved making new friends, playing in the play area, and egg collecting and animal feeding time. We enjoyed sitting round the campfire toasting marshmallows and looking out at the beautiful view. Peter was a great, accommodating, friendly host. This was our first Featherdown experience and we loved it. We'll be back for more!
