We only left the site when we needed more supplies. The fact that the town facilities are so close is fantastic. We didn’t need to leave otherwise as there was so much on site to keep everyone happy for the weekend.

For a long weekend, I'd ditch the car, stay on site and soak up the atmosphere of the farm. Go on the farm walk, build a raft, collect fresh eggs in the morning, bake your own pizza and soak up the beautiful views. Oh, and the chocolate cake was incredible!

Take a kettle and plug it in at the Honesty shop for a quick cup of coffee or hot water . There is no electricity on the site for the lodges to use directly inside them- only at the honesty shop . And take a small Primus stove for speed as well - saves having to cook on /heat up the wood burning fires and barbecues every time for little things .

Do the walk to the pub for tea and you might get to see deer on the way home like we did. I would book a table first and allow about an hour and fifteen minutes for the way there so you can spot all the turns to take.

Better information could be provided for exploring the local area but there is bowling and movies if the weather is awful and local historical sites nearby. The farm offer a great day for the kids, we booked Pony Grooming but they wrapped it up into a morning with the farm animals and the kids had a great time and the parents enjoyed the peace.

We drove to Bedgebury Pinetum (about 10 miles) and hired bikes which was a great activity for a couple of hours (husband did this with the children while I had a lovely walk with the dogs) - we intended to go to an historic house Penshurst Place which had been recommended but didn't get round to it. Dined at a fabulous pub - The Vineyard at Lamberhurst (Jill had recommended the local one The Nock-something??? but the kitchen was closed when we went, so you need to check this. BTW we had the tent with a shower - having done Featherdowns before without the shower, this definitely helped overall comfort of our holiday.
