!Het Wesselink in Salland is located in Schalkhaar / Deventer on the banks of the IJssel. It is located in the middle of the Salland region, between De Hoge Veluwe National Park and the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. The area is characterized by wide floodplains, a beautiful landscape, and a wooded ridge. Het Wesselink in Salland is a dairy farm that has 60 cows. Margriet and farmer Henk are happy to introduce you to their life on the farm!
The tents are located on the edge of the forest, with an unobstructed view of the meadow at the front. The cows graze in the pasture in front of the tents for a large part of the year, but it is also possible that they are in front of the farmhouse. In the early morning and at dusk, you may be able to spot deers walking through the meadow, which you can regularly see from your tent. The cows stay in a luxury automated barn, they can choose whether they go outside or prefer to stay inside. Farmer Henk is happy to tell you everything about the cows and will show you up close to how the automatic milking machine works. Every day he is busy working on the farm and in the afternoon he desperately needs your help with feeding the calves. Do you dare to bottle feed a calf yourself ?! Many calves are born every year and they stay in a separate stable. You can help farmer Henk with cleaning this barn too! Remember to say hi to the dog Dora and give her a pat!
The forest behind the tents is a playground paradise! You can race on the go-kart , build huts and climb trees (be careful not to fall!). There is also a water playground including a water pump and toys, perfect for hours of play. Under the large year-old beech tree is a giant swing where you can swing with your whole family! There is also a swing/climbing rope. If you haven’t played enough yet, you can play soccer with your farm friends, jump trampoline or build castles on the sandhill .
In addition to the cows, there is a pasture with two stubborn sheep, a meadow with two ponies that you can brush and a cuddle shed full of rabbits. You can also pick up a fresh egg from the chickens every day! Do not forget to order an extensive breakfast basket or evening meal from Margriet, because, from her personal note, each basket is a party in itself. Preparing the farmer‘s soup or the grilled farmer’s chicken together makes your Feather Down holiday complete!
From the farm, you can go for a very nice run without being hindered by traffic. You can also walk, a bike or mountain bike around the area. Behind the farm is a challenging mountain bike route if you are looking for a challenge. Restaurant NUNU is less than 2 kilometers away. This is the place for a cup of coffee with a slice of homemade apple pie! You can also taste the freshly prepared organic dishes here and there is a particularly beautiful playground for the little ones with regular fun activities.
Salland is known for the ‘Salland’ asparagus. In April, May and June, fresh asparagus grows in the area can be bought straight from the asparagus owners. Close to Het Wesselink, you will find the Hanseatic city of Deventer, which lies by the river IJssel. A very beautiful city, with a historic center. On the square at De Waag, you can take one of the many cozy terraces after you have visited the Toy and Tin Museum with the children . There is so much to experience in this versatile city! There are free events offered in this area including “Deventer op Stelten” (first weekend of July) or the well-known “Deventer Boekenmarkt” (first Sunday of August) and in the summer months, there is Brocante aan de IJssel every Saturday.
