Church Stretton offers restorative glamping stays in the gorgeous Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With the tents nestled in woodland rather than located on a working farm. This means that some Feather Down activities, such as egg collecting or the farm tour, aren’t possible here.
However, if you do wish to experience farm life don’t worry! You can visit Acton Scott’s working farm which is just a 10-minute drive away with a small entry fee. It’s a firm family favourite, with chicks to hold, eggs to collect, lambs and sheep to feed and ploughing to watch. Recreating an 18th-century home farm, life is shown unfolding daily with the land worked by strong horses. After getting a taste of farm life, relax in The Old School Cafe with a drink or bite to eat.
Church Stretton itself is tucked away in the countryside, although is easily accessible from Birmingham and just over 3 hour’s drive from London. The location offers some of the finest natural scenery in England; perfect for a long day of roaming before returning to relax in an outdoor hot tub. Ragleth Hill and Wenlock Edge are the rural idylls made famous by A.E. Housman’s poem “A Shropshire Lad”.
You might have seen Church Stretton on BBC TV, as the estate achieved national fame as the setting for the hugely popular Victorian Farm series. The show acknowledged the Acton family’s tireless championing of sustainable practices, and its success was followed by another BBC show filmed entirely at Church Stretton. The Acton family has owned land here since the 12th century and today their 1,500 acre estate consists of several farmsteads, stone and timber framed cottages, untouched woodland and open pasture.
There are a numebr of local shops close by along with several charming market towns. These include Shrewsbury to the north and Ludlow, a foodie paradise with Michelin star restaurants, to the south. Once you’ve got all your stock in, you and your loved ones can all pitch in for a barbecue or slow-cooked meal on the wood burning stove! Do this in the glorious setting of your Shropshire glamping family holiday.

The Acton family has owned land here since the 12th century. In recent times, when many landowners obliterated all traces of the past in pursuit of modernisation, we chose instead to lovingly preserve the history and heritage of their estate, which is much in evidence today. As a result, Church Stretton has attracted national profile through television appearances and by hosting visitors at our estate.
