Feather Down
Options & pricesSet in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the woodland site at Acton Scott offers you a peaceful and relaxing stay and some of the finest natural scenery in England. The Acton family have owned the land since the 12th century and are focused on preserving the history and heritage of the estate. Your canvas hideaways are tucked away each with their own private clearing, in the tranquil setting of Hatton Wood, a 20 acre plantation of native trees - the ideal setting for a family holiday in Shropshire. Your host will be Tamara who will welcome you in with a drink’s night on your check-in day, the perfect opportunity to meet your fellow Feather Downers and find out more about the area.
Tamara is also something of an expert in traditional crafts like lace-making. This year she will be holding twice weekly workshops where you'll be able to have a go at using a loom and making your own greetings cards.
The Shropshire Hills are a walking paradise; don’t forget to take in Ragleth Hill and Wenlock Edge, rural idylls made famous in ‘A Shropshire Lad’ by the poet A.E. Housman. Further afield are the medieval towns of Shrewsbury and Ludlow. Shrewsbury boasts over 600 listed buildings and Ludlow is a foodie capital famous for its castle and theatre festivals. You couldn't be better placed than Acton Scott for a family holiday in Shropshire.
Although your canvas hideaways are not on a working farm, you will be supplied with a fresh bottle of milk from the Proper Good Dairy, whose cows graze on the nearby fields. If you fancy a morning stroll, it’s a short walk to the dairy for a top-up from the milk vending machine. On your way back, admire the estate’s farmsteads, stone and timber-framed cottages, untouched woodland and open pasture. From your canvas hideaway, you can enjoy the sounds of owls and skylarks and the beauty of the surrounding flora and fauna. Take an evening barbecue on the veranda before dipping into your private hot tub (bookable in advance) beneath the stars. All of the canvas hideaways come with private hot tub and panoramic views of the surrounding hills and comfy beds to retire to after your exertions.

Meet your hosts
The Acton family has owned land here since the 12th century. In recent times, when many landowners obliterated all traces of the past in pursuit of modernisation, they chose instead to lovingly preserve the history and heritage of their estate, which is much in evidence today. As a result, Church Stretton has become a firm favourite through television appearances and visitors that travel to experience its beauty year-round.
