If weather is decent do the raft building - kids really enjoyed getting involved! Pony grooming for kids is lovely too. Good local pubs and a Go Ape and Curling centre is nearby if you want to try something different!

Take a kettle and plug it in at the Honesty shop for a quick cup of coffee or hot water . There is no electricity on the site for the lodges to use directly inside them- only at the honesty shop . And take a small Primus stove for speed as well - saves having to cook on /heat up the wood burning fires and barbecues every time for little things .

  • Do the walk to the pub for tea and you might get to see deer on the way home like we did. I would book a table first and allow about an hour and fifteen minutes for the way there so you can spot all the turns to take.

Remember to bring lots of layers & hot water bottles for extra coziness at nights as well as games/cards/activities for rainy times. Lots of tea lights and candles are useful. The honesty shop is well stocked if u forget anything.

We drove to Bedgebury Pinetum (about 10 miles) and hired bikes which was a great activity for a couple of hours (husband did this with the children while I had a lovely walk with the dogs) - we intended to go to an historic house Penshurst Place which had been recommended but didn't get round to it. Dined at a fabulous pub - The Vineyard at Lamberhurst (Jill had recommended the local one The Nock-something??? but the kitchen was closed when we went, so you need to check this. BTW we had the tent with a shower - having done Featherdowns before without the shower, this definitely helped overall comfort of our holiday.
