Dolphinholme Farm, situated on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, is only 20 minutes from the coast and not far from the River Wyre, making a swim or paddle a very inviting prospect! The big play barn is always a hit with children, and the 2 hour/mile treasure hunt is the perfect opportunity to explore the beautiful countryside here. Intrepid children can also tackle the orienteering course, which will teach them compass skills in a safe environment.
The Gorst family have farmed here for over 70 years. Today, they have calves to feed and pet as well as a menagerie of hens, ducks and rabbits. There’s also 4 Labradors called Raven, Musto, Millie and Proc, Meg the Jack Russell and Harriet the cat. It’s very easy to fall in love with the place, so it’s hardly surprising that the Rough Guide to Camping in Britain quoted from the guest book: “This is the greatest holiday ever and I want to work here when I’m older’’.
Right by Dolphinholme Farm is the Forest of Bowland, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which features a dramatic landscape of gritstone fells, deep valleys and peat moor and plays host to a rich variety of upland bird-life.
This farm is a fantastic natural playground for young and old alike. The play barn behind the tents will put your local park to shame, with its straw bales, swing, sandpit and giant slide. The more adventurous can explore the farm’s deciduous woodland, which provides ample opportunities for den-building. The honesty shop is well-stocked to sustain you – don’t forget to try the farm’s delicious cheese, yummy on some fresh bread.
While staying at Dolphinholme, it’s easy to take a trip to the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, the Forest of Bowland and the funfairs of Blackpool. The historical city of Lancaster is also nearby, as is Morecambe with its promenades and fabulous views across the bay.

Truly getting back to nature! The kids didn't stop playing outdoors from 9am to 9pm! Plenty to do with the river, walks, playing field, animals and play barn! And the lodges were amazing. Can't wait to go back!
Ms Bullen (10)
Very relaxing living at a slower pace. Kids loved playing in the play barn and by the river.
Mrs. George (10)
For a London city dweller it was lovely to get away from the noise of emergency vehicle sirens & relax in a peaceful oasis of calm , where the only noises were of birds & animals . Dolphinholme is an excellently located site with easy access from M6 & historic Lancaster in very close proximity , Morecambe Bay , Fleetwood , Blackpool & the southern extremities of the Lake District are a short car ride away. The tent facilities once you remember no electricity available made a great change . The site took me back to my younger days of watching Cowboy Westerns at the cinema as the site at first glance reminded of a gold mining prospectors settlement with the canvas & timber dwellings. All in all an excellent place to stay & enjoyed by those staying from age 4 to 67 !!
Mr. Skayman (10)
Lovely farm and hosts in beautiful countryside .
Mrs Marshall (8.8)
We have made great memories with the kids at Dolphinholme! Barbara,John and Mark made us very welcome. The kids loved playing in the barn, touring the farm and playing by the river. Can't wait togo back!
Miss Marsland (10)
This is our third visit to Dophinholme and was the best yet. The farmer and his family are excellent hosts and could not do more to make our stay perfect. The shop is well equipped, there is plenty of hot water in the showers and the location along with the play barn could be simply be no better. We love it here and this farm is becoming an big part of our children's childhood!
Mrs. Tinkler (10)
Wonderful holiday, kids and adults alike. Really organised and the on site shop is reasonably priced. Chickens were very productive!
Mr. Moorhouse (10)
We had an amazing family weekend break. Mark and family couldn't have been more welcoming and our son Jack especially loved feeding the calves and collecting eggs from the hens at breakfast. A really lovely back to nature break.
Mrs Tipping (10)
I couldn't recommend this dolphineholme highly enough, we have never camped or glamped before so had no idea what to expect. Our children are 4 and 6 and had the time of their lives doing the simplest of things! Swinging in the rope swing over the river, playing in the play barn, having a total independence they can't have at home. The hosts were great, the other families and children lovely and we will definitely go again!
Mr. Wicks (10)
Great fun, even the rain couldn't dampen the kids enjoyment. The kids loved the play barn and my eight year old daughter loved getting up early and running down to the chickens in her PJs and wellies to get some fresh eggs for breakfast.
Mr. Hudson (8.8)
Amazing family adventure.lots of fun things to do.friendly helpful staff.
Mr. Austin-Thomas (10)
Excellent holiday all of the family loved it. Such a beautiful location and a restful holiday, a real opportunity for family time together. Kids aged 8 & 5 years especially enjoyed making new friends at the play barn, dam building and stone skimming at the river and the rope swing. Tents had everything we needed and beds were clean and comfy. Such a treat to collect fresh eggs every day and wake up to such a wonderful view from the tent. Hosts were really friendly, welcoming and approachable. Looking forward to our next visit !
Mr. Percy (10)
We love glamping with Featherdowns ... They tents are great fun, the locations perfectly positioned, and the honesty shop providing for all you need. The farm usually provides for lovely interaction with animals, although this time circumstances made it less engaging than we had experienced in Wales. Plus the honesty shop was a little less inviting in the way of local produce.
Mr. Boysen (8.8)
We really enjoyed our weekend at Dolphinholme, the girls had made friends within a couple of hours and spent all the time they could in the barn with the slide, trampoline and kittens! Collecting fresh eggs daily from the chicken coup was a real highlight and we especially enjoyed the pizza night. I wish we could have stayed longer.
Mrs. Nippress (10)
A peaceful and relaxing break getting away from it all in beautiful sorroundings. The hosts had their input just right about if you needed them they made you feel occluded but not to in your face.
Mrs Brand (8.8)
Thoroughly enjoyable time with my 2 children, they had a great time. The team at the farm were great and the children loved getting eggs of a morning and making camp fires!
Mr. Arslanian (10)
We stayed in one of the canvas frills tent with Our children, 6,4,2 and our dog. We had a fantastic time. The farm is great with everything you need. The children were free range all week, they made lots of friends with other children and had the best time. The children played safely which was great for us. The honesty shop is really well stocked with all sorts of bits you may need and we didn't really need to shop anywhere else. The 2 pizza nights were a great social event. The lovely river at the bottom of the field made it for us. We literally spent hours down there paddling with nets and buckets. It was a great place for the dog too who also loved the river. It was a perfect chilled out relaxing holiday, we stayed on the farm most of the time and the kids were happy and loved it. Totally reccomend this place , thank you for a lovely stay.
Mr. Ashton (10)
We had a great holiday. Our three children, aged 10,6 and 5 loved the experience and made friends with other children on holiday there. They loved the play barn and spent a great deal of time in there. It was great to see them enjoying the simple things, playing on the hay bales, running around in the fields and paddling in the stream. The owners were great, making us feel very welcome and the pizza night was great! We also enjoyed the treasure hunt through the beautiful countryside. We'll certainly be coming back!
Mr. Baxter (10)
We had a lovely time away from the hustle and bustle and it was great to live a slower life for a few days. The farmer and his family were lovely and gave us a tour and told us about their way of life, it was very interesting. The play barn was great and we picked our own eggs every morning. Would definitely recommend Dolphinholme, it's a beautiful part of the country.
Mrs. Nash (8.8)
Super relaxing holiday for parents and great fun for kids! The family are very welcoming and the animals are a great source of interest and amusement. Lots to see and do locally if you wish to explore, with several good places to eat and have a drink. Well worth a visit.
Mrs. Spencer-Calnan (10)
Really excellent stay once again not even spoilt by the typically awful British summer weather. Adults and children alike had great fun.
Mrs. Bulcock (10)
The best holiday we have had. Great to give the kids some freedom and so much to do in the area. We will definitely go back! The hospitality on the farm was excellent and the whole area is beautiful. The play barn was a hit with the kids and they loved collecting fresh eggs from the chickens. We had so much fun as a family.
Miss Varey (10.0)
The best holiday we have had. Great to give the kids some freedom and so much to do in the area. We will definitely go back! The hospitality on the farm was excellent and the whole area is beautiful. The play barn was a hit with the kids and they loved collecting fresh eggs from the chickens. We had so much fun as a family.
Miss Varey (10)
Peaceful! We had an amazing time, the facilities were perfect.
Mrs. Hopcroft (10.0)
Peaceful! We had an amazing time, the facilities were perfect.
Mrs. Hopcroft (10)
A really relaxing break and lots of fun. The kids had a great time and we're all looking forward to our next visit.
Mr. Crutchley (10.0)
Great back to basics time away with the family. Beautiful area and great hosts.
Mrs. Penney (10.0)
We were given a warm, repeat welcome by John upon arrival, & our kids quickly got to work in the play barn. Our tent was next to the barn in which the goat kids were being raised, and consequently the heaters were on all night which kept us all awake. When we mentioned it, John moved us to a different tent straight away, and we enjoyed the rest of our short break immensely. It was cold (being late October), but there was no better feeling than getting the stove & candles on, and settling down under a duvet with a book and a head-torch. The site provides loads of opportunities to explore. We even went on a night walk along the side the river, and through the woods. Love it.
Mr. Young (8.8)
The children loved the play barn!
Mrs. Carrington (7.5)
The children really enjoyed it. They loved the cupboard bed toasting marshmallows the rope swing at the river and the play barn. The highlight was holding the baby goats and learning how to milk them. The hosts were very helpful and great with the girls. It was good to have a toilet and shower in the tent. We only used the hot tub once as it took 4 hours to heat up. We found it cold at night and it would have been good to have a bit more light after 630 but the height of the season this wouldn't be a problem. We are glad the girls had this experience.
Mrs. Docherty (7.5)
Had a wonderful time. My son (4) loved the play barn & the farm tour.
Miss Frith (10.0)
Wonderful escapism from the rat race.. Excellent site with friendly owners. Kids loved the back to basics lifestyle which I feel today's youth miss out on
Mr. Guy (10.0)
The canvas lodge was excellent but the farm itself was disappointing. The showers & the communal area needs tidying up & improving. Seemed run down & 1/2 finished.
Mrs. Dawson (8.8)
We had a fantastic weekend and will definitely back. We fell in love with the goats, and didn't want to leave them. The facilities were great, and Mark was lovely and hospitable. There was something lovely about the ritual of making a cup of tea when it takes an hour to make.
Ms. Mullin (10.0)
Mrs. Tinkler (8.8)
Fab holiday with children aged 7, 5 and 2. Our oldest enjoyed shopping in the well stocked honesty shop. They all enjoyed the play barn, goats, river beach, meadow, hot tub and pizza oven. The farm tour was very interesting. Our 5 year old in particular loved holding the baby goats and helping with milking. The farmer and his family were very welcoming and helpful. Our gas shower was temperamental but they did their best to fix it. As kettles are slow to boil on gas burning stoves they provided tea and coffee making facilities next to the honesty shop which was thoughtful. Bumping into the farmer at the bar when out for lunch at the Inn at Whitewell was like bumping into an old friend! Feather Down could make some improvements:- our hammock was out of action and in need of repair (awaiting action by Feather Down we were told)- unfathomably the double bed had 2 single duvets instead of a double. (From what we can gather from the farmer and comments on other Feather Down camp sites this is standard for Feather Down. Why?!)- gas shower unreliable. But overall a great holiday.
Mrs. Asbridge (10.0)
A real holiday away from the stresses and strains of urban life.
Ms. Williams (10.0)
We had a lovely tech free family holiday (2 adults and 2 children aged 11 and nearly 14) which we all enjoyed. Eldest was in charge of the wood burner for the weekend and did a fantastic job and youngest was on candle lighting duties and cooking breakfast. The tent was lovely and clean and had everything you needed, the farm shop was good and had everything you would need including fresh bread each morning and the host was very friendly and took the time to make sure all his guests were happy - he gave us a quick guide of the tent then left us to it but returned about an hour later to make sure we had settled in ok and that our fire was lit. A highlight for the youngest was getting to hold a 3 day old kid goat. All in all it was a very good experience (I don't do camping!) which we all enjoyed and we had no complaints from the children, even the weather (rain during the day then thunderstorms at night) didn't stop us having a brilliant time.
Mrs. Pedrog (10.0)
Dhr. Van De Voorde (6.3)
This was our first glamping experience and we were so impressed that we've booked it again for October. A fab family holiday.
Mrs. Young (10.0)
A very enjoyable stay, very relaxing for me and the kids
Miss Foster (7.5)
Four of our grandchildren request this outdoor camping holiday every year, and insist we go back to Dolphinholme on the goat farm. This was our fifth visit so John, Barbara and Mark must be doing something right! Many friends are made during adventure time in the play barn and on the playing field. A really great experience for children and adults.
Mr. Kelly (10.0)
A great experience back to basics! kids learned how to wash dishes , and paddle in a river, see a dead goat ( holiday highlight ) experiences they enjoyed.Farm was busy with working machinery moving around fast had to watch kids at all times near the yard .Soup package didn't arrive, breakfast hamper was the same as frills hamper so got a shop credit for that it worked fine. farmer and his staff friendly and very helpful.
Mrs. Revie (8.8)
A truly fabulous, relaxing weekend of absolute family time without distractions or technology! We didn't want to leave and can't wait to visit again soon!
Mrs. Wilson (10.0)
We had a lovely stay at Dolphinholme. Our two children, aged 2 and 3 loved it from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. They especially loved the freedom and space, the bed in the cupboard, collecting eggs from the hens, chatting to the goats, the big slide and trampoline in the play barn .. And just about everything else too!
Ms. Ni Mhir (8.8)
A lovely relaxing time in nature.
Ms. Potts (10.0)
A perfect escape from the everyday routine of both work and school, spending most of our unstructured time outside in a beautiful location and communally living with friends.
Mr. Jones (10.0)
Amazing, exceeded expectation. Will definitely be returning with more friends and family to dolphinholme farm. John and Barbara were lovely, the honesty shop was that well stocked that we didn't have to step foot in the dreaded supermarket once, we didn't leave the farm the whole weekend and we would of gladly stayed there for a whole week.... Loved it loved it loved it ...the kids and big kids had a ball.
Mrs. Turley (10.0)
We have just returned from our first stay with yourselves and are already planning the next one! The children have never been able to have so much freedom, we as parents have never been so relaxed, and my father in law has remembered a way of living he had forgotten existed. Thank you for the magical memories.
Mrs. Grace (10.0)
Wonderful time had by all,the children age 10,6 and 4 made friends within an hour of arriving ! They enjoyed paddling in the river and the play barn was a big hit. Pizza evening was a great way of getting to know the other guests, all in all a lovely way to spend a week away .
Mr. Sutcliffe (8.8)
The farm is a simply fantastic place for city children - so much space and freedom. The holiday earned its cost immediately on arrival seeing the sheer excitement in my daughter's face when she went into the tent. For us, being without internet, screens, or phones was a strangely liberating and restful experience!
Mrs. Pascoe (8.8)
we had a really lovely time, particularly as the children had so much fun
Mrs. Roscoe (10.0)
Great fun, peaceful, a lovely change from our usual holidays and nice to spend quality time with family
Mrs. Partridge (10.0)
Just what I wanted it to be. No TV or technology - even no signal on mobile! Back to basics fun in the fresh air and sense of freedom. Stayed in the camp all week which was all we needed - my 4.5 yr old grandaughter loved the stream/beach, playbarn, chickens/collecting eggs, helping at milking time, puppies, sleeping in the cupboard! Farmer and family extremely welcoming and friendly. Would definitely do again - however, different time of year as was extremely cold overnight in April!
Mrs. Stone (10.0)
Excellent. Really well thought out.
Miss Pinnington (10.0)
different, an excellent way to reconnect with family
Dr. Brogan (8.8)
chilled, relaxing, very enjoyable
Mr. Sotheran (8.8)
Took time to adjust as a new environment but then we all slowed right down_x000D_ Bit cold at night!
Ms. Wenger (8.8)
The best family holiday you can get
Mrs. Collins (10.0)
The farmer and his family go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. The children were thrilled when Mark let them herd the goats in for milking - everyone was so patient and never made you feel as though you were in they way during what was a busy time for them.
Mrs. Ratcliffe (10.0)
Fantastic back to basic experience!
Miss Alexander (10.0)
Didn't know what to expect. Had one of the most relaxing and enjoyable breaks for a long time. First class.
Mr. Robertson (8.8)
excellent! loved the farm experience. loved the tent. loved the freedom for the kids.
Mrs. Nilson (10.0)
Large spacious site with great play areas for the children including the football area and the great play barn
Mrs. Bulcock (10.0)
It was the best holiday I have ever shared with my family. The location was breathtaking and the hosts were so welcoming and friendly. When we got to our accommodation it was so rustic and quaint it was just perfect like a fairy story. We loved the safe and secure nature of the ground sand the limited number of tents that's we soon got to know pretty much everybody. It was a really friendly atmosphere everybody was warm and all the kids just played all day from daylight to sun down. They had the time of their lives with such freedom and good vibes, they didn't even notice there was no electric which meant the world to me, that was exactly why I wanted to go to connect with nature and other people. The facilities for the children were outstanding a real play barn, football pitch, beautiful stream and farm , outdoor undercover eating area and honesty system farm shop. It really was like the good old days. I have been raving to everyone about it and will definitely go back next year but for a week. I only wished Id found it sooner, a truly beautiful experience .
Mrs. Curtis (10.0)
From arrival our experience at Dolphinholme was perfect. The friendly family greeted us and couldn't have been more helpful. The location was amazing, the kids loved the play barn, chickens and all of the goats. We loved going on the farm tour and milking the goats and the pizza night was a lovely touch. Perfect holiday, we'll be back as soon as we can!
Mr. Melhuish (10.0)
We loved everything about our Featherdown break, except leaving!
Mrs. Laing (10.0)
What a wonderful experience!! We leave with memories never to be forgotten and cannot wait to return in the future.
Mrs. Sharp (10.0)
Lovely location. Very handy for Lancaster.
Dr. Fleming (8.8)
Simply the best holiday we have ever had as a family.
Mrs. Tinkler (10.0)
Another fantastic holiday at Dolphinholme!
Mrs. Foster (10.0)
Fantastic stay but the car park needs to be made with a blocked off path around it so children are not walking across the car park.
Mrs. Preshaw (10.0)
We all enjoyed the feather down experience, the children loved the freedom of just getting up and going immediately outside and made sure we were all up early to collect the eggs. It really was a happy healthy holiday.
Mrs. Hammond (10.0)
Amazing location!! Farm facilities were great and the welcome from the hosts warm and friendly.
Mrs. Miller (10.0)
What an adventure for the children in our group, they had a fantastic time. They loved the responsibility of been able to use the honesty shop. Between the river, play barn, petting the guinea pigs and rabbits to wallowing in the hot tub they were on the go all day. A fabulous holiday which allowed the children to explore.
Mrs. Williamson (10.0)
Prachtige natuur, watervallen, grote vlaktes,..._x000D_ _x000D_ Kortom supervakantie
Dhr. Smets (10.0)
The holiday was really nice. The farmer and his wife were most friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
Mr. Whybrow (8.8)
Grandparents, parents and 2 children all enjoyed this holiday. John the farmer was lovely and welcoming and we really enjoyed the tour around the goat farm. The play barn was well used and the children loved the freedom of going off to collect the eggs for breakfast. It was one of the most relaxing holidays we have ever had..... no ipads or phones. The children enjoyed skimming stones on the river and running across the fields looking out for insects ect. oh and that hot tub was amazing!!!
Mrs. Wilson (10.0)
This is our third trip and it won't be our last! The kids simply love the freedom and the adventure. The added comforts enable us adults to relax even when the weather isn't the best.
Mr. Gafos (8.8)
the site was very clean and tidy. The farmer was very nice to us and welcomed us warmly, even though we were late. The site was safe enough that we felt we could allow our boys to go off and Play without us having to watch them constantly . The boys loved the animals and enjoyed stroking goats and collecting hens eggs. The tents were very well equipped and easy to get used to, the boys liked the cupboard bed and ended up moving beds each night so they could try each one. We will seriously consider this type of holiday again
Mr. Owen (8.8)
Yes there are flies, yes there are animal noises and yes you will here noise of farm vehicles. This is a working farm and all of the above are to be expected but none of it is excessive. Dolphineholme Farm is a little piece of heaven away from WiFi, electricity, gaming consoles and mobile phone and DAB signals. My children spent their days running round the farm, collecting eggs, playing with the rabbit and guinea pigs and running up and down the field and play barn. I sat back and read a book. The kitchen is very well stocked (no wine glasses though). The farmer and his family were very welcoming and very accommodating about our dog. We had a great time and would love to go back.
Mrs. Yates (10.0)
A very warm welcome by the farmer and his family. A lovely farm tour. The children felt involved with the farm and the play barn was perfect for wet days.
Mrs. Shaw (8.8)
We took our 3yr old son and our parents to a Frills tent at Dolphinholme Farm and I can honestly say it was one of the best holidays we have ever had. We knew from the first day that we were not going to want to go home and we were right. It was such a relaxing break despite the fact that we never stopped. There was so much to do from keeping the fire under the hot tub going, collecting eggs, exploring the fields and stream and just watching our son run and play with the other children in the field and playbarn. A fabulous holiday and we will be back very soon.
Mrs. Cooper (10.0)
Fabulous! The location in farmland with the lovely river across the field was perfect! Just amazing...want to be back there now :-)
Mrs. Brooks (10.0)
It was a fantastic holiday from start to finish. Great farm, good location and lots of things to do. Our children loved the play barn, collecting fresh eggs, playing on the swing by the stream, cooking marshmallows on the camp fire and playing games in the big open field.
Mr. Shippey (10.0)
Absolutely superb !! Great to be on a working farm. Very hospitable farm owners. Great location next to a safe river for the kids, great addition of the play barn and zip wire.. No wifi or 3G signal on the farm meant a complete switch off. Tents set facing a huge field with part of it cut short with goal posts so the kids can play ball games. Plenty of free eggs for the kids to collect direct from the hens....able to see the goats being milked and can even have a go. Informative farm tour. Well stocked honesty shop and clean showers. Can buy a Treasure Hunt trail which was great fun for all the family and filled a couple of hours. We joined in the pizza evening which was good to meet and chat to other families. A 10 minute walk took us into the village of Dolphinholme where there is a small park and a further 15 minutes took us to The Fleece Inn for a fabulous evening pub meal. Excellent food and plenty of it !!! Excellent cycling direct from the farm ( hilly ! ). We hired the outdoor cooking pot to make a beef stew which was great fun._x000D_ A Nana, grandad, mum,dad and a 7 and a 4 year old ALL had a wonderful 'old fashioned ' holiday !!
Mrs. Singleton (10.0)
Only saw the farmer when we arrived, took the farm tour and when we left. Were very disappointed that there were not more things to do involving the farm and the animals. It didn't feel like we were part of the experience. Only there to live in a tent for the duration. Facilities were poor and could have pitched a tent anywhere and visited a farm for the day and interacted more_x000D_ Than we had at featherdown farms. Definately not the product advertised in your lovely brochure. The frills were not really worthy of the extra premium.
Mrs. Bennett (5.0)
We have just had a really wonderful weekend at Dolphinholme. We just loved the "tent", we were in a frills tent and thought the hot tub was just brilliant - our two boys spent hours in there. We really couldn't have asked for more - the location is beautiful, we had a stunning view from our tent. The owners were very friendly, couldn't do enough to help and we learnt lots from them about their farm and goats! The tents are extremely well equipped and comfortable. We were plenty warm enough and managed to eat very well all weekend. We would highly recommend Dolphinholme and definitely hope to visit again.
Mr. Lavarack (10.0)
This was our third Featherdown holiday and we have decided it will be our last. The farmer and family were lovely but the tent position was rubbish. We were about 10 paces from both the play barn and the car park and the barn behind us had a fan running all day and all night. I don't go on an 'away from it all holiday' to be sited like that. _x000D_ _x000D_ The tent felt tired. One of the chairs was an office chair? Only one gas lamp and many of the window flaps missing the toggle so flapped up and down all night!
Mr. Henwood (5.0)
The whole family had a great time and we plan to do it again next year.
Mr. Sheridan (10.0)
We had the most wonderful realing break, our children loved every second from setting down our bags to sadly leaving!
Mr. Needler (10.0)
Since our children were born 8 years ago our nct group have managed to get together for a yearly holiday. This years was the best so far! The layout of the farm and tents meant the children could run wild without us being concerned for their safety. They played in the barn with its trampoline and straw bale assault course. They spent hours stroking the rabbit and guinea pigs and collected fresh eggs for breakfast. The tents were warm and cosy and the stoves capable of rustling up a full English for 23. Thank you for making such a memorable occasion magical.
Mrs. Earnshaw (10.0)
A pleasant rustic experience for the family.
Mr. Allsopp (8.8)
We had a wonderful stay at Dolphinholme Farm. Farmer John and his wife Barbara made us feel very welcome. The children loved the animals and the play barn and we will definitely be returning next year !
Mr. Stones (10.0)
We had a fantastic stay, one of the best holidays we have ever had!
Mrs. Brookes (10.0)
We had a fantastic time. Loved the peace and quite. The hospitality was second to none and the shop better than a high street. Cannot wait to book and go back._x000D_ _x000D_ Dogs loved it too!
Mrs. Vaughan (10.0)
Yes, fab as usual.
Mrs. Wilson (10.0)
i would rate it as one of the best family holidays that you can have......no televisions, mobiles computers etc..._x000D_ Quality family time together with family and friends_x000D_ Just being out in the open air
Mrs. Dobson (10.0)
Mrs. Svikis (8.8)
Yes but weather was dreadful. If we had just a little more dryness it would have made all the difference. The location is lovely and we did enjoy our stay despite the weather. Our son was not bothered at all by the weather. He loved the play barn and saying hello to the goats, hens, guinea pigs and rabbit every morning.
Mrs. Colquhoun (7.5)
This was our second visit to Dolphinholme Farm & it was much anticipated. We were thrilled to see that sofas & BBQ's are now standard - what a pleasant surprise. The sofa very much added to the comfort of our stay. The free hamper we received as part of the 'early bird' booking was smashing - filled with delicious goodies & great basics. _x000D_ We hope to be back again next year!
Mr. Seddon (8.8)
My four year old daughter became a real 'Swallows and Amazons' child for the week. A real pleasure to see her delight at playing wheelbarrow races, help collect the chicken eggs and even have a go a milking a goat! Seeing her blossom before my eyes - priceless.
Mrs. Collins (8.8)
Miss Shaw (10.0)
A wonderful stay, just what we wanted and always get.
Mrs. Limbert (10.0)
Very much so. Our 2 1/2 year old loved it
Mrs. Mills (8.8)
yes quite good
Mrs. Janin (8.8)
Had a wonderful week! My four year old revelled in the freedom she had, made loads of friends which in turn meant my husband and I were able to relax too. Wonderful farm run by a wonderful family, very warm and friendly. Wholeheartedly recommend it for a truly great family holiday.
Mrs. Staniland-Platt (10.0)
Ms. Lewin (8.8)
Yes, it was probably one of the best family holidays we have had. Our two children loved the freedom and were very happy, which made our stay excellent!.
Mr. Kennedy (10.0)
A wonderful family experience for all to enjoy. It was an amazing holiday and one which the children will be talking about for years to come!
Mr. Barnett (10.0)
Wonderful. Thoroughly enjoyed by everyone from 3 years old to 38. My 5 year old boy now wants a goat to look after. Well run with plenty for the kids to do and relaxation for the rest of us.
Mr. Seaton (10.0)
Great farm, play barn a real godsend. All very easy.
Mrs. Mackay (10.0)
We had visited Dolphinholme House farm before and our three children had had a wonderful time. It feels very safe and the playbarn is a fantastic addition. We chose this farm again because of the location to home and the facilities on offer. We would definitely go back again, and we would also consider travelling further afield. We really love the Featherdown Farm concept and we look forward to our next visit!
Miss Roberts (10.0)
Very pleasant. Great fun, brilliant farm, great people and loads to do despite the weather.
Ms. Mcdermid (8.8)
Fantastic. Relaxing and fun. Rain didn't bother us!
Mrs. Austin (10.0)
We had a lovely holiday
Mr. Corbitt (8.8)
We had a fabulous time !!
Mrs. Paraskeva (10.0)
We have a lovely time. The play barn was fantastic and everything was close to hand. The farmers were all really friendly, and they let our 7 year son help with the milking of the goats, I'm sure he was more of a hinderance but they were really patient! We also stayed at the perfect time to see the baby goats being born - a real experience! We stayed on 'stew pot' weekend - we were provided with all the ingredients for two lovely stews - plenty of meat and veg on both days, absolutely everything provided, even the fresh herbs.
Mrs. Aindow (8.8)
We had a wonderful stay. Thank you! The tents were exactly what we were expecting and the hospitality was spot on! Attentive but mostly leaving us to it. The tour was good fun and we never felt we were getting in the way. We filled the days easily minding the stove, playing in the field, bouncing on the trampoline or throwing stones in the river at the end of the field. THere is no phone signal there which I found heavenly but worth knowing in advance if you are arranging to meet people. It was perfectly idyllic and our 2 yr old LOVED it. He toddled freely around talking to his rented pet rabbit or chickens and even took himself off to the play barn. The farm provided us with a fire guard to keep his inquisive little hands away from harm but to be honest, we explained that the stove was hot and he was respectful of that (surprisingly). If I had to find fault, we were a little disappointed we were not staying in a tent in the field , as these were beautifully located and our party were the only campers staying. We were allocated the closest tent to the carpark because we had little ones with us (2,3 & 5). All tents were identical (except frills tents) so it didnt make a big difference. The other thing was how dirty/dusty all the 'crockery' was. Again this was no problem as I just washed /rinsed everything before we used it - it is camping in the great outdoors and on a working farm after all._x000D_ TOP TIP: its surprising how noisy the great outdoors is. The wind was strong overnight while we visited and it was difficult to get to sleep with the tent flapping and leaves rustling. BRING EARPLUGS just in case. It did make it feel very cosy inside though :-) Bring blankets so that you can sit comfortably outside in the evening: The stars were magnificent!
Ms. Edwards (8.8)
Break was fantastic and although it is a working farm and we were obviously holding them back from their work they could not be any nicer and nothing was a problem to them. Definately recommend it. Also the shop covers absolutely everything that you may need
Mr. Tait (10.0)
Fantastic stay, we will certainly be going again. The tents were well equipped and the family running the site were very welcoming and helpful. Our children aged 1 and 3 loved it and the eldest keeps asking to go back!
Mrs. Jepson (10.0)
it was a brilliant holiday
Mrs. Preshaw (8.8)
We have enjoyed a wonderful week away at Dolphinhome Feather Down Farm._x000D_ Lazy, relaxed & carefree - a great experience for the whole family._x000D_ The kids loved playing down by the river, in the play barn and seeing the goats & chickens._x000D_ We will definitely be back. Thank you.
Mrs. Hemingway (10.0)
Yes it was brilliant.
Miss Pawaroo (10.0)
We had an excellent stay.
Mrs. Kitney (10.0)
We had the greatest holiday ever! Being able to give the kids such freedom & sense of adventure was an absolute joy... and the play barn gave the adults freedom too!
Mrs. Kershaw (10.0)
We had a lovely time, very relaxing, the kids loved the play barn and the chickens!_x000D_ Will definitely return.
Miss Hann (8.8)
yes, yes, yes
Mevr. Cavendish (10.0)
Brilliant. As always.
Mr. Stanford (10.0)
Fantastic, our most relaxing holiday ever! The children were so happy to play in a safe yet wild environment where we could see them at all times yet they felt like they were running free with other children. great friends made among children and adults. We will be back.
Mr. Hart (10.0)
Yes, we had a lovely time and met some really nice other families. Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating.
Mrs. Cunningham (8.8)
Yes we had a great time - thoroughly enjoyed by our 4 & 6 year old kids and 13 week old puppy! loved the farm, location, goats, and swimming in the river. the play barn was a complete hit and great for the kids to get to know each other.
Mrs. Tait (8.8)
It was fantastic - our children all agreed it was the best holiday they have had (who needs holidays abroad!!). It was brilliant to see the children having 'proper outdoor fun' and children making friends of all ages, in a safe environment. My husband and I also agreed it was the most relaxing holiday we have had, which surprised us. All the above was certainly helped by the wonderful hospitality, helpfulness and friendliness of the owners, who certainly went the extra mile! Especially Mark the son.
Mrs. Sanders (10.0)
We had a very pleasant stay, the children specifically wanted to return to Dolphinholme and they were not disappointed._x000D_ We will almost certainly return to Dolphinholme in the future._x000D_ The family make you very welcome, and deliver a superb "Lancashire" hotpot to your tent, and the Pizza evenings are excellent.
Mr. Kelly (10.0)
The best family holiday we have had for many years. It was relaxed and interesting for the adults and very exciting for a five year old boy and his dog. We would have stayed another week if there had been a vacant tent.
Mrs. Pearson (10.0)
We had a brilliant stay at Dolphinholme Farm. The children thrived from the independence they had to run around and make new friends in a safe environment. We all look forward to a return visit.
Mrs. Todd (10.0)
Well......we have just arrived back from our trip to dolphinholme. A brilliant time was had by all. Our party was my wife and I and our 7 year old daughter. Being a man I thoroughly enjoyed poking with the fire. Forget watching top gear the fire is the best entertainment a man could ask for. We really got into the spirit of country /farm life. The farm owners were really friendly and helpful they really went out of their way to show us around, engage with the kids and even cooked our pizzas last night which were great. We enjoyed playing in the river, the play barn and exploring the woods. The local pub The fleece was a good lunch out. Without wishing to sound too cheesy it really was like going back to when I was younger (a lot younger) and kids would just go off make friends and PLAY for hours on end. No games consoles no phone connection (seriously not even a text is possible and forget Internet) no TV. Just playing, chatting and meeting new people. I may still have my post holiday rose tinted specs on but I can't recommend this place any more highly. I have been on all different types of holidays in numerous countries. This is definitely one of, if not the best holiday we've had as a family. _x000D_ Tips_x000D_ Put lots of fire lighters on the fire before you try and light it_x000D_ Girls there isn't really a spot to plug in your straighteners in the showers however if you take a travel adaptor you can plug the in a shaver socket or use a sneaky socket in the shop - sorry Barbara _x000D_ In short it's brill_x000D_ _x000D_ Room Tip: All good from what we could tell
Mr. Keir (10.0)
The farmer and his wife were lovely and coundn't be more welcoming. We had an absolutely perfect weekend. The kids made loads of friends, they LOVED playing in the river, the open spaces to run around and explore, they really enjoyed the play-barn and I was especially impressed with the pizza oven. The cupboard bed was a massive hit at bedtime - no whinging - they actually looked forward to going to snuggling up in bed together for a story.
Mrs. Otterburn (10.0)
We had a lovely sun filled stay in August 2013. We quickly found ourselves leaving the phones alone (no signal :-)) and living life by the fire. We had extras such as the shower and the hot tub which all need planning into the day as the fires take time to light and then get hot enough! Cooking was fun and toasting marshmallows on the fire have already become firm memories for us and the two kids (12 & 8 years old). The field is enormous and the spacing of the tents are such that you have a great feeling of privacy and your own space to relax. There is a fun river to paddle or swim (we did..) in beyond the tree line and we spent hours having a lark about in there just letting the day drift by! The evenings were lovely with a romantic candle lit tent, warmed by the main stove fire playing cards round the dining table. We went on the farm tour which is informative and short enough for the kids to stay interested. The play barn was a great touch for the kids to burn off a bit of excess energy too!
Mrs. Johnston (8.8)
We had a very enjoyable stay at Dolphinholme Farm. The tents were basic but comfortable and the surroundings were lovely. There was plenty to do in the local area and we would definitely stay there again.
Mr. Mountain (8.8)
as always dolphineholme was welcoming and perfect. John and his family do all they can to make our stay unbelievable. we have been three times and will definitely be returning for a fourth._x000D_ the area farm and tents are always clean and the children are catered for in so many ways... Mark(the owners son) even went out of his way to get a plastic slide for the children to slide on... best holiday by far!
Mr. Bloem (10.0)
Amazing! The farm was great. The play barn made our holiday. It kept our children busy playing with all the others there and it was very safe so all of us adults could totally relax and chill out. Its the first time in a long time I have read a book in one week! It didnt feel long enough and we wished we were there for 7 nights not just 4. Very close to little places to visit.
Mrs. Fowler (8.8)
We had a very pleasant stay at Dolphinholme; some relaxation and lots of fun!
Mr. Morrison (8.8)
Yes, thank you!
Mr. Powell (10.0)
The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it felt very safe. For the adults it was an excellent opportunity to get the whole family together in a tranquil setting where we weren't surrounded by catch-penny entertainment and shops.
Mrs. Osborne (8.8)
We had a lovely stay, playing in the river, visiting the chickens and goats and generally chilling out!
Mrs. Davies (8.8)
Very pleasant. Children loved it.
Mr. Whisker (10.0)
Miss Clarke (8.8)
Yes- very relaxing and extremely pleasant stay. the children loved it and it was great to be able to let them run about by themselves and not worry about them.
Dr McIlhenny (10.0)
We had a fantastic holiday. The fact that every child on the site was in tears at having to leave on the last day says it all. The hospitality on Dolphinholme couldn't be beaten and the setting was beautiful with plenty to explore nearby. Our 5 & 7 year olds are suffering with the holiday blues now!
Mrs. Wilson (10.0)
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dolphinholme Farm, and were blessed with glorious weather. The farm setting is beautiful and having the River Wyre a short walk from your tent makes for good family fun. Though having said that with the brilliant play barn onsite we hardly ever saw our children. Would recommend you take advantage of hiring a rabbit for your stay as our children loved it.
Mrs. Butcher (8.8)
Mrs. Hull (10.0)
The weather was lovely and our welcome was good. Unexpected family visitors were greeted kindly and we did have a pleasant stay.
Mrs. Swan (6.3)
Yes thank you
Mrs. Ball (8.8)
Overall we had a pleasant stay and had some good experiences. I thought the tents and contents were well thought out. However, as a camper, I felt some of the site facilities were not really that great and as such did not represent value for money. We could have stayed in a 4/5 star hotel for less. I do appreciate this is about the experience, however, the shower block and shop do need to be improved to bring the overall experience up. The tents could also do with a good clean.
Mrs. Lowdon (7.5)
Holiday was fantastic. What a beautiful location! The children had a lot of fun exploring the farm, meeting the animals and making new friends while my husband and I chilled out :) My daughter said it was the best holiday ever! We will definitely be booking for next year.
Mr. Mitchell (10.0)
We had a lovely 1st experience of camping as a family. We would like to do it again, but would also like to experience different farms.
Mrs. Dibnah (8.8)
Mr. Sandell (8.8)
Mrs. Handley (10.0)
Absolutely fabulous time had by the whole family. John & Barbara were brilliant hosts and the kids were left to roam the farm from dawn till dusk. We will be back!
Mr. Kirkham (10.0)
We had a brilliant stay - the farmer and his family were very welcoming and happy to answer all of our questions. The site itself is great, we were very lucky and had brilliant weather but with several undercover areas and an all weather play barn, it would have been great anyway! The treasure trail was great fun and a good way to explore the local area!
Mrs. Duckworth (10.0)
We had a fantastic stay at Dolpinholme, the weather was perfect, our boys aged 5 & 3 spent the entire time outside, they loved the playbarn. It was a beautiful setting, John the farmer, his wife Barbara and some Mark were very good hosts, anything we needed or wanted to know was never too much trouble. The highlight of our stay was the pizza night, we got together with all the other families and had a lovely evening.
Ms Dunn (10.0)
Unfortunately we experienced rain for most of the holiday which did not help the experience.
Mr. Rostron (6.3)
We had a great family holiday at Dolphinholme Farm. The accommodation was really quirky, and our son loved his cupboard bed. The farm owners were very welcoming and made lots of effort to make us feel welcome. There were lots of great touches like the farm tour, the eggs, and the farm shop which made a difference. Best of all, the play barn kept our 5 year old busy for hours, come rain or shine.
Mrs. Kingston (10.0)
As usual it was fantastic. Weather was a bit iffy but that didn't matter.
Mrs. Wilson (10.0)
Very much, the tents were clean and tidy and the outdoor hottub and shower were great.
Mrs Powell (8.8)
We had a great time especially as we could look after our own rabbit.
Mrs. Richards (8.8)
Amazing. We have never been so relaxed over such a short space of time. Exactly what we imagined and everything we could of hoped for. The kids and adults all really enjoyed our stay and would consider going again.
Mr. Holden (8.8)
As a party of 16 who go away regular togeather we all came to the same conclusion that our weekend at dolphinholme was one of the best weekends and will be visiting again next year
Mr Littlefair (10.0)
We had a fantastic time none of us wanted to come home. We have 2 children aged 4 and 5 and they wanted to stay and live on the farm as did we. It has been our best holiday so far and we will definitely be going back. The honesty shop was well stocked with everything you need and more and we got fresh eggs every day from the chickens. We found the farm tour very interesting and had a pizza night which was a nice touch as you got to have a few drinks and socialise with the other campers..there was also a treasure trail which was great fun and a big play barn which our kids loved. We can't wait till next time to go:-)
Mr. Biggins (10.0)
yes best holiday the family has had
Mrs. Jordan (10.0)
Really good time, lovely farm, children had a whale of a time, everything just as we expected. John and family very welcoming and helpful, would definitely visit again.
Mrs. Parker (8.8)
Yes however we wish we had been informed that no one else was staying while we were as it effected the ambiance we had expected and the service seemed a little more basic. There was a pile of dead goats at one point which I doubt would have been on view if we were not the only ones there.
Mr. Pankhurst (8.8)
Mrs. Brewer (8.8)
We had an amazing stay. John, Barbara and Mark could not have been more welcoming. A special thank you to Mark for allowing the children to join in milking the goats. The tents were very well looked after and we were very comfortable. The children adored the goats and almost moved into the play barn. The was lots of fun to be had on the farm from feeding the hens and collecting eggs to treasure trails and walks along the river. We will be returning to this farm and exploring others in the future.
Mrs. Bollard (10.0)
We really liked the farm, the tent layout, the play barn and the pizza oven - in fact we loved everything and could picture ourselves back again but in warmer weather - it was absolutely freezing and we were quite shocked how cold the tents were as they are not tied down to the base on the ground but have really big gaps where the wind and cold get in - we will be back but in summer.
Mrs. Wilde (10.0)
Terrific stay. Our 4 little ones loved the whole experience - from helping to milk the goats to collecting firewood each evening. They met friends and spent hours each day roaming the farm and living out adventures.
Mr. Freed (8.8)
Brilliant, so relaxing my 3 children loved it. They played freely outdoors everyday it was so refreshing not to even here a whisper of a request for TV or technology.
Mrs. Pentelow-Boyle (10.0)
Yes, it was golden. The children went back to nature and we only saw them when they got hungry! They did get really, really dirty though so we had to clean them before feeding!!
Mrs. Scott (10.0)
Wonderful autumnal weather and a very warm welcome. Youngest in party, 7, loved the freedom, new friends and playbarn. Oldest in party, 74, was surprised at how warm and comfy the beds were. Camping in October at her age was a breeze! We loved the pizza oven night and found everyone very friendly. My daughter and I thought the goat-milking was our highlight.
Ms. Marsh (10.0)
The farm was lovely, and the farmer was friendly and helpful. The tents needed a bit of repairing but it was the end of the season so it was understandable. The goat cheese was incredible and the goats were fun to watch.
Mrs. Engle (8.8)
Yes very good the tents where briliant and the hospitality of Mark the farmer was very welcoming.
Mr Hukin (10.0)
Mrs. Bruder (10.0)
What a fantastic time we had. The children loved the play barn and the huge field that they could play in. They also loved that they could always collect eggs from the chicken coup throughout the day.
Mrs. Wilkinson (8.8)
Yes however two points_x000D_ _x000D_ 1. Tent not as clean as in previous stays, needs a good spring clean, particularly the floor._x000D_ 2. Charging for items previously free, wood, kindling. Half used candles in tents, when in previous stays new. No supply of coffee or washing up liquid when arrived,in previous stays included. Just little things but makes us feel standards are dropping and you are effectively hiding an increase in price.
Mrs. Hughes (8.8)
We all had a fantastic time and our children did not want to leave. The tents are so cosy and the farm owners are very friendly and welcoming. Beautiful surroundings with very friendly goats.
Mr. Finlay (10.0)
Overall it was a great experience and a good introduction to camping. We loved the back to basics approach but we did feel that a few tweaks could have made it even better. We stayed at the Dolphinholme farm which was a great place and super hosts but the shower block area could have really done with some tlc. For a "glamping" experience we felt the shower block area was really something that you would have come across in lower grade camp sits. John the farmer also suggested that they might install a boiler for drinks near the honesty shop which would have been great. It would have created a sociable space. Overall great time was had by all just the shower facilites were a let down.
Mrs. Yeowart (8.8)
Yes, great experience
Mr. Hobbart (8.8)
It was absolutely brilliant. John and his family were warm and friendly which created a relaxing atmosphere. Our boys were occupied all day starting with collecting eggs in their pyjamas. They paddled in the river, discovered the local countryside as part of a treasure hunt, helped to milk the goats, fed the pigs and hens and played in the play barn for hours. They are already asking when we can return - we will certainly be booking for next year!
Mr. Bradfield (10.0)
Yes indeed...It was such a fabulous experience for all of us and we are rather sad to be home.
Mr. Johnson (10.0)
It was a grest holiday especially as we were staying on a wroking farm but this did not affect our holiday at all. Our 5 year old son really enjoyed it as the farm was well off the main road he had a lot of freedom and could usually be found at the play barn. There were a a few children there around his age and it did not take long for him to make a friend. The pizza oven evening was a very social event with most of the tents participating. Although the accomodation was a tent it was well presented, clean and all the basic items you would have at home. Unfortunately for us we arrived during milking time and checked us in but said he would return to give us the farm safety briefing and low down on the operation of the wood burning stove which he duly did. All the farm staff were very pleasant and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We were also very impressed with the level of thought that had gone into the layout of the shower block with one of the cubicles being supersized for families to use and shower with their smaller children. If you enjoy a gentle hike then we can recommend the treasure trail run from the farm.
Mrs. Watling (10.0)
Yes we did it, the whole stay lived up to our expectations, the owners were very friendly and because of a great holiday there,we cant wait to try another site too. We have been recommending the Dolphinholme site to our friends and family too.
Mrs. Pugh (10.0)
Fantastic, despite the weather and the car breaking down on the way there!
Mrs Bennett (8.8)
Yes thank you. First stay at a feather down farm and we were impressed. We are regular campers with our our tent but it was lovely having a proper bed, toilet and not having to put the tent down on departure.
Mr. Stubbs (8.8)
Dr. Sugars (10.0)
we had a fabulous stay, fully enjoyed by all the family and the mad chocolate labrador
Mrs Henderson (10.0)
The play barn was the highlight of the holiday - our four year old daughter spent all her available time in it playing with the other children - she had an amazing time (which meant we all had a great holiday!). Would happily recommend to anyone with children.
Mrs. Nickson (10.0)
Yes, our stay was very good, we did not leave the farm except to do the treasure hunt which was enjoyable for the whole family.
Mrs. Samuel (8.8)
We had a great time. The location was brilliant and particularly well thought out for children. Barbara and John were very accommodating and helpful. There was lots to do and we would definitely book to go back again.
Mrs. Glasspool (10.0)
We have been before and loved it. Unfortunately this time our tent was less than 3 meters from a barn with a large extract fan running 24hrs a day. Although the fan was not too loud outside it was reverberating in the tent. The owners turned it off for us on two of the nights but left it running for the whole of the third. I understand that the animals need ventilation but the tent was too near a constant drone to be at all relaxing. Boo.
Mrs. Norcliffe (5.0)
We are the Gorst family and we've farmed here for over 70 years. Father and son, John and Mark, farm in partnership with Barbara and you'll receive a warm welcome from us all on arrival at Dolphinholme House Farm.
