In West Sussex almost directly on the Surrey border just an hour from London, Canfields Farm is a beef farm that also has lambs and chickens you can help feed. The farm offers a tent for groups of up to 10 people as well as the classic tents. The tents are sited on the edge of woodland, while Canfields itself nestles between the North and South Downs. Another special feature is the outdoor water-play area with a waterfall shower and sandpit.
Canfields Farm has a tradition of sale from the farm gate. The entire friendly herd of 30 suckler cows can be traced back to three foundation mothers, Peggy, Fox and Delight, whose well-being is noted by inspectors as being excellent and stress-free. Unfortunately, guests’ dogs can’t be accommodated at Canfields.
The fantastic bluebell woods are perfect for den-building, stream-damming and deer, butterfly and woodpecker spotting. On the farm, you can collect eggs from the Loman chickens and get to know the Goodwood lambs. The cows in the field next to you and horses at livery will be happy to keep you company. A great timber undercover area at the camp’s centre means wet weather won’t inhibit spending time together or devouring delicious barbecue food. The pizza evening together around the wood-fire oven is another dinner time treat. In front of the tents, a playground and play pitch is ideal for football or badminton, or whatever games you and your children can think up!
Excellent walking and cycling adventures start right from your doorstep on the South Downs Way, and scenic towpath walks and canal boat trips can be taken locally. Fishing can be enjoyed at Furnace Lakes Fisheries nearby. The village of Rudgwick boasts four local pubs, the closest of which, the Fox, is just ten minutes’ walk away. Try racing at Glorious Goodwood, Fontwell or Ascot, or golf at any of five courses within five miles. The market towns of Chichester and Horsham are also nearby.

A memorable experience for the whole family!! The perfect family holiday and so much fun for the kids to be able to interact with the farm and animals. All the family @ Canfields made the whole stay warm, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Could not recommend highly enough - thank you!!
Mr Loveland (10.0)
Fun, outdoor experience
Mrs. King (8.8)
A great location for a family holiday, the owners are very warm and welcoming, our son had a blast looking after the chickens and sheep all week. The forest immediately behind the tents offers fun for exploring and den building and there are great walks and nature all around. A lovely place to go, would definitely recommend.
Mr Cherry (8.8)
We had a wonderful family holiday. It was so nice to slow down and properly relax. The tent was wonderful. The beds were so comfortable and the boys loved the cupboard bed. We didn't really leave the site as the boys had such fun feeding the sheep, collecting eggs from the chickens (12 in 2 days!) And making friends in the field. The highlight being a football tournament with 4 tents joining in, followed by everyone eating communal pizzas at the pizza oven. We will definitely be back! Thank you.
Mrs Hill (10.0)
Amazing. Lovely site with very welcoming hosts. The woods are a great area for the kids to play. Shame Featherdown has stopped the outside cooking stoves, that really makes cooking fun....a BBQ isn't quite the same.
Mrs. Hayden (10.0)
Simple living but with frills!
Mrs Chisholm (10.0)
We had a fantastic time!
Mr Yeoh (10.0)
The perfect escape from city life
Mrs Abass (10.0)
Relaxed, fun and nice to be surrounded by nature
Mrs Kovacs (8.8)
As 1st time glampers we were slightly nervous arriving at the farm but what a fantastic 4 days! Tim and Sarah couldn't have been more accommodating and our 2 children (5yo & 2yo) had the time of their lives feeding the animals and exploring the woods. We will definitely be back for more of the same!
Mr Drake (10.0)
Amazing! Real quality family time, rustic environment, the perfect break for busy working families. The boys loved the animals, collecting eggs, feeding the sheep and collecting fire wood.
Mrs. Close (10)
Fantastic location and set up. The sheep and chicken enclosure was a real hit and the woods behind the campsite were an added bonus four our 3 boys. Tim, Sarah and Erica went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
Mr. Micklewright (10)
Fabulous experience for us and our two young girls. Waking up to the cows and sheep was great fun. My daughter has now asked for a sheep for Christmas! I think maybe a yearly Trip feather down will have to do. Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable. X x
Mrs. Amin (10)
Super fun ! The views were breathtaking, super nights under the stars around a campfire and the tents were superb, the kids loved the cupboard bed. The woods just behind the campsite together with the sheep and chickens provided hours of entertainment for the kids . Varied eating with BBQ's and the pizza oven was an added bonus!
Mevr. Mclean (10)
Brilliant. Great facilities. Lovely farm team. Who would have thought that sheep and chickens could be such fun. The children absolutely loved it - bringing 'cold water bottles', collecting firewood, chicken feeding and the farm tour with Erica and of course toasting marshmallows over the camp fire. The site was small enough for all the families to get to know each other and lighting the wood pizza oven was a great communal event. Watching husband and two children trying to get the 'naughty sheep' out of the chicken coop was a highlight. It was a great weekend, learning to go slow and plan ahead (yes, it does take 45 mins to boil a kettle on a wood burning stove). The honesty shop had everything we needed. Sunshine, comfortable beds and lovely hot showers all helped us relax. Thank you to Tim, Sarah and Erica and to Featherdown Farms.
Ms. Evans (10)
Wonderful weekend away with friends. Tent was just as expected, site was well looked after and the woods provided a great opportunity for the children to entertain themselves. Will definitely be back!
Mrs. Trowbridge (10.0)
A wonderful escape.
Ms. Kellegher (8.8)
Mevr. Steengracht (10.0)
We had a fantastic long weekend with friends. Sarah and Tim were so welcoming and friendly. The children ran wild, safely, and loved helping feeding the animals and collecting the eggs. Loved every minute of it

Mrs. Maloney (10.0)
A truly relaxing holiday for both children and parents allowing us all to escape the everyday routine and enjoy spending quality time together. The 'tents' are extremely well equipped and we were all very comfortable despite experiencing all types of weather over one weekend.A lovely welcome from the owners and we felt very well looked after.Marshmallows over the camp fire and cooking our own pizzas in the bread oven were highlights for both the young and old!Thank you!
Mrs. Nelson (10.0)
We have just come back from a magical time, glamping. The children loved collecting eggs, and we were lucky enough to meet the calf born during the night while we were there. It brought back my childhood memories.
Mrs. Bjerglund-Davies (10.0)
Tim and Sarah were such friendly, helpful and attentive hosts. They were so generous with their time and allowed us close access to their farm animals. The chickens were very popular and used to being well handled. We loved Canfields, it had everything you could wish for, a lovely open field for games just in front of the tents and a magical woodland just behind the tents which kept us amused for hours, building camps and collecting wood for our many fires! Sarah lit the Pizza oven for us on Sunday which was also a lovely end to the weekend. We all agreed that we would love to come back, it was so relaxing, a special experience with close friends. The only thing missing was our favourite! a HOT TUB. Please Featherdown, would you consider allowing Canfields a hot tub or two?
Mrs. Peacock (10.0)

We loved every second of our week at Canfields Farm. The beds were cosy, the duvets thick and perfect for chilly April nights, the hot shower, the wood burner to cook dinner.. everything in the tent was perfect. Our kids aged 1 and 3 felt total freedom from the moment they woke and pulled on their wellies to explore the farm, check the chicken coop for eggs and (by the end of the week) hug the lambs. There's a beautiful bluebell filled wood behind the tents that runs down to a stream... apart from quick runs to buy food, we barely left the farm during the week and had the most wonderful time. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Mr. Tomlinson (10.0)
It was fantastic despite the weather and having to be evacuated from the tent to avoid storm Katie. The hosts were brilliant. We cant wait to return.
Mrs. Lawfull (10.0)
We had an amazing time! We loved every minute. Facilities were great. We will definitely be doing it again.
Mrs. Mcghee (10.0)
relaxing and peaceful
Mrs. Lindop (10.0)
Was quite a surprise. This working farm certainly more than lived up to its website image. Even the cows! Very well run, professional yet familiar approach, with great attention to detail regarding accommodation and site. Open, friendly and super relaxed owners, which trickled down to each of us campers. The comment on communal showers is 'invented' for the purpose of the survey ~ as we had a Frills tent so had our own wonderful powerful hot hot shower!!
Mrs. Morison (10.0)
Relaxing. Very well set up for families. Great farm tour. Friendly hosts.
Mr. Beverley (10.0)
Almost everything about the holiday was great, the tents are spacious and clean, the hospitality on the farm was excellent, the beds lovely and comfy and the outside set up with playing area for the kids was great. However the one issue (and for me it was a big issue) was the noise of the planes landing at Gatwick. We stayed for 1 week and some days it was ok but most days the tent was right under the approach path with planes flying at about 3000 ft and preparing to land, very noisy and one about every 2 - 3 minutes non stop until about 12pm....kinda spoils the rural peace and quiet. Your website sells the idea of escaping from the noise of the big city - quote - 'Wake up with everything around you, unzipping the tent to let the view in of a real working farm at a gorgeous location'...however omits the part about waking up to the sound of the 8.15 Easy Jet flight from Malaga. I organised the holiday for my family and also my sister and dad and I was very disappointed and upset by having to were ear plugs every night. The rest of my family pretended for my sake that they didnt mind but I know they too found it annoying. Sorry to the farm hosts, I know you are just trying to make a living and you do a great job, but had I known about the planes I would have chosen a different location. We spent $1600 pds on the accommodation and I feel like for that price everything about the holiday should be what you expect from a rural camping retreat.
Mrs. Golsby (8.8)
A huge thank you to Sarah, Tim, Erica & Charlie as we had an amazing time staying at Canfields Farm. It was our first time, so we didn't know what to expect, but it was brilliant and so much fun. Sarah, Tim, Erica and Charlie you were the perfect hosts and always welcoming, cheerie and happy to help. We felt very relaxed, had everything we needed and we the adults had a great time and the kids were in heaven. And the other guests were lovely and good to know as well. Thank you for all your hard work and for making our stay so memorable. See you next year! Justin & Iona Pops xox
Mr. Murray (10.0)
What a fantastic time we all had at Canfield's Farm. Our kids loved being able to wake up, and go straight outside, to explore, play, or help feed the animals. Tim, Sarah, and Erica were such a lovely family, and really bent over backwards to help. Tim even went and collected bikes we had hired, and brought them back to the farm for us, so that our younger daughter did not have to ride far on a road. We would definitely stay here again.
Mr. Catterson (10.0)
An amazing escape from the daily grind! Like stepping back in time! Loved every minute of it!
Mrs. Clark (10.0)
We were lucky enough to be on our own, Tim and Sarah were wonderful hosts, the children loved the interaction with the animals and the grown ups the tranquility and comfortable facilities.
Ms. Elizalde-Mills (10.0)
We hired out all the tents at Canfields Farm for a family get together and it was a huge success. The children could play to their hearts content, the adults were all comfortable and we could make meals together at the communal table and woodburning stove. A great set up which contributed to a successful family gathering.
Mrs. Pachonick (8.8)
Mr. Midgley (10.0)
A very relaxed holiday that the children loved, especially the lambs, the chickens and the enchanting wood, full of bluebells, wild garlic and exploring fun.
Mr. Vellender (10.0)
Brilliant - the farmers were so welcoming and the facilities for the kids by the tents were excellent; the kids spent most of their time playing and feeding the lambs and chickens as we as in the sand pit.

Our Family along with two other families had a wonderful time at Canfields, from the minute we arrived and were greeted by Sarah who gave us a guided tour we felt relaxed and all the children loved just playing together. We visited the local café, brewery and The Fox pub which were all great and within walking distance. Just a great weekend and we are all looking to go Featherdown again.
Miss Shelton (10.0)
Great family fun! The hosts were really welcoming._x000D_ Will be coining again!
Mrs. Refet (10.0)
Our family camping holiday at Canfields Farm in Sussex was simply amazing. The people were wonderful, everything you need is there and the farm animals were the kids best friends by the end of it. Very family friendly and we recommend having the chickens by your tent as our eldest (5 years) was so excited about going to feed them every day and check for eggs for our breakfast. One of the highlights was the communal meal that you cook up in the big bread oven and then sit around a big table with the other guests to eat, drink and chew the fat. Made for some wonderful evenings.
Mr. Mortimer (10.0)
We had the most wonderful break at Canfields. Our son is 8 years old and the scale of the site meant that he could be independent when visiting the chickens and greeting the cows. The tents are comfortable and beautiful and the beds excellent. We found it to be a most grounding experience. Also of note, was the excellent organic beef from the farm itself. Our hosts were helpful, friendly and very approachable.
Mrs. Budd (10.0)
We loved our glamping holiday!_x000D_ So relaxing as the kids had the freedom to play safely close by while we had huge deck chairs to read and sip tea in. Perfect!
Mrs. Bolton (10.0)
Exactly what we hoped for. The enjoyment of camping with a few home comforts thrown in. A lovely setting, hosted by a lovely farming family.
Mr. Partridge (10.0)
The overall impression of our holiday was good. The hosts were very welcoming and attentive to our needs. The children especially enjoyed feeding the chickens and the farm tour we had on our first morning. _x000D_ _x000D_ We thought the standard of accommodation was very good, but it could have been a little cleaner; there were a few stains in the bed mattress covers and I found a tshirt someone had left behind under one if the pillows so not sure how well the beds had been checked from the previous guests. _x000D_ _x000D_ The only downside to this particular location was the noise from the Gatwick flight path.
Mrs. Ingram (7.5)
We loved our time down on the farm. It was a complete escape from reality and being able to purchase the odd necessities from the shop was an added bonus. We all have wonderful memories of our time to treasure from wandering with the sheep to the daily rush to check for eggs and the evening chat with the cows. The kids in particular loved being so close to nature. We enjoyed escaping the smog and the business of everyday life.
Mrs. Stromgren (8.8)
A big thank you to Erica, Sarah, Tim, Charlie & Toby, you run an amazing place. You made us feel part of the family.
Miss Julien (10.0)
Brilliant, kids and adults loved it.
Mrs. Vaandrager (10.0)
Very good: Sarah and Tim were fantastic. Welcoming and helpful. Always available. Charming with the children. The beef stew meal was fantastic. The chicken coop enchanted the kids and the lambs were adorable.

Mrs. Fletcher (10.0)
Yes, stunning. It was just a lovely experience for both adults and children. Such a warm welcome from really lovely hosts.
Mr. Carey (10.0)
All in all a very pleasurable stay. Despite mixed weather and much mud, the kids loved the ability to roam freely in the woods, and play with the lambs and chickens. Location was great too and convenient if you are coming from London.
Mr. Levene (8.8)
We had a wonderful stay. The tents are extremely impressive both in comfort and in design. They were really adaptable for different weather conditions - we saw a few types on our stay - and looked a bit like the set of a film. The owners of the farm were all very friendly and helpful. The honesty shop had clearly been stocked by someone with experience of small children and had many treasures to buy and borrow for our stay. The setting against the bluebell woods was absolutely beautiful. It was amazing that you could get such a wholesome outdoor adventure only 1 hour from our home in London. We came home with a healthy ruddy glow on our cheeks. If only it had lasted more than one day.
Mrs. Love (10.0)
Mrs. Aslett (10.0)
We had a brilliant week at Canfields.
Mrs. Hadler-Pries (8.8)
We had a great stay at Canfields - with the help of the sunshine! Everything was easily accessible from the tents and the close proximity of the lambs and chickens meant the children were free to wander at leisure but still be in our sight line.
Mrs. Mcquillan (8.8)
We had a fantastic stay at FDF Canfields, the family that run the farm we're so generous and such friendly people, they really did go above and beyond to make us have the best weekend. Highly recomended and we shall definitely be booking again. _x000D_ _x000D_ Many many thanks_x000D_ The Strachan Family

Mr. Buller (8.8)
Yes! It's always great.
Mrs. More-Ferrall (8.8)
Mrs. Craig (8.8)
We booked a four-night stay with the whole family - three generations comprised of five adults, a two year old and baby. The accommodation was better than expected - really cosy and well set up. We had a fun stay at Canfields Farm. On the first day we simply relaxed around the farm and enjoyed the environment. On the second day we travelled down to West Wittering beach and on the third day, visited the Cass Sculpture Foundation and had a delicious pub lunch at the Cricketers in Duncton. The proximity of the sheep and chickens was very exciting for our two-year-old Ella and it all felt very safe for her to wander around. Our only small issues were the lack of horses and the proximity to the Gatwick flight path. However, this was our first family holiday in 17 years, our first Feather Down Farm holiday and, hopefully, the first of many to come.
Mr. Logie (8.8)
Yes - perfect for the children and great for mums and dads!
Mrs. Brown (10.0)
The family at Canfields are wonderful, extremely friendly and welcoming. The site itself is very suited to younger children with the 'play' area in front of the tents being perfect to give them some freedom but also peace of mind for the parents. Just be warned that you will hear road and plane noise._x000D_ _x000D_ It was great to have the chickens and sheep so close by and with such easy access for the kids to interact with them.
Mrs. Simpson (8.8)
Amazing! So relaxing and restful. And our particular farm at Canfields had its own chicken coop and sheep pen right outside the tents, so ideal for entertaining the kids!!
Mr. Dawson (10.0)
We had a wonderful time. The tent was clean and had in it all the essentials. My children (aged 4 and 2) were filled with awe and wonder each morning as we discovered what our chickens had laid for us. The atmosphere in the tent was always warn and cosy, thanks to the wood burner. It was lovely to get away from it all and just play board games, read and do puzzles. By the end of the week we had all started to have afternoon naps! We will certainly be recommending Featherdown farm and Canfield's in particular. Thanks you for a memorable stay.
Mrs. Stuttle (10.0)
Our stay was perfect and Erica, Tim and Sarah could not have done more. _x000D_ _x000D_ If you think you might like it - do it, we will be back!
Mr. Day (10.0)
We had a very relaxing and fun 4 days at Canfield, it was our first time camping and we definitely plan do it again.
Miss Ashley (8.8)
Yes - it was absolutely fabulous. I had high expectations from the website and it met and exceeded them. Sarah, Tim and Erica were so warm and friendly. I felt at home immediately!
Ms Street (10.0)
Fantastic stay, this is not camping as I know it, this is actually quite nice. Very pleasantly surprised throughout
Mr. Ward (10.0)
We has a wonderful time at Canfields. Erica, Tim and Sarah were great hosts, and very accommodating. Our 4 year old son was in heaven - collecting eggs, exploring the woods, getting mucky, helping make fires and toasting marshmallows. The space and peace made us feel very relaxed - we even had good weather! The organic meat from the farm was delicious and we had a great night roasting a joint in the wood oven. A really lovely break. And easy to get to from London.
Mrs. Hall (10.0)
We had a wonderful stay - and although the sun didn't really shine, it didn't impair our enjoyment of the weekend at all. The family running the farm were extremely friendly and our boys loved the freedom to go and visit the animals whenever they wanted. A very welcoming farm all round!
Mrs. Routledge (8.8)
Yes apart from the weather.
Mrs. Thomson (6.3)
We had a great stay at Canfields in June, despite the weather! Sarah and her family gave us a very warm welcome, helping us settle into our tents. The area round the tents was great for all our children...an area for football/cricket, small slide, and just 10metres from the chicken coup which kept the children entertained for hours on end. Well set up for dining with a lovely large outdoor table, and the pizza oven for Sunday lunch was great.
Mrs. Langham (10.0)
We had a wonderful weekend at Cranfield Farm. Taitum (5) was delighted to collect warm eggs, while Aimme (2) loved the lambs. Sarah, Tim and Erica were great hosts.
Mr. Kritzinger (10.0)
Yes, lovely time. The amazing weather helped too. Great spot as only 40 miles out of London. Everything you needed for a 2 night break.
Miss Blackmore (10.0)
Mrs. James (10.0)
Mrs. Milland (10.0)
Yes, we had a great time! A relaxing, family weekend!
Mrs. Thamoderam (10.0)
Our holiday was wonderful despite the rain. The bread oven was great for bread and pizza and a delicious roast beef from the farm (zero food miles!)- it lead to great communal cooking and eating - we would have used it every day!_x000D_ _x000D_ The children adored the animals especially the lambs and were made welcome at feed times etc. They loved collecting the eggs and we all enjoyed eating them._x000D_ _x000D_ Very safe enclosed site so great for younger children and the wood is good for adventurous play for the older ones ( scope fp
Mr. Rudman (8.8)
After much nervousness about sub-zero temperatures we had a great time. We all slept fully dressed and under multiple duvets and were cosy enough (as long as no-one needed the loo at night, it did reach -2). The kids had great adventures in the wood behind the tents collecting firewood - although be careful of the quick sand! They loved feeding the chickens and collecting eggs too. For one big group of five families, as we were, the lay-out worked very well with the tents all facing the communal cooking area and play area. we had a lot of football tournaments. i must admit the aeroplane noise did bother me (particularly early in the morning) but we might have been unlucky with the wind direction. They fly very low, you can pretty much wave at the captain....We had a lovely afternoon at the fox inn which is just a short walk away. We were 10 kids and 10 adults and they were very welcoming. Kids played in the garden and climbed trees all afternoon. Food was good and very reasonable.
Mr. Mcandrew (8.8)
We had a lovely time - an unforgettable weekend! The children loved every minute and so did we!
Mrs. Donaldson (8.8)
Yes, very pleasant, despite being during the coldest Easter on record. Thank goodness for the thick duvets!
Mrs. Hunt (10.0)
We had a brilliant time, the hosts were lovely and the tests were Cosy and it was a particularly nice farm. Our kids loved the whole thing elspecially the chickens and sheep. We asked the high and low points and the best thing was sleeping in a cupboard and the worst was being headbutted by a sheep (said with a big laugh!).
Mrs. Mansell (8.8)
Thoroughly enjoyed it, we had some City doubters but by the end of the weekend they were full converted to glamping
Mrs Pavitt (10.0)
Really enjoyed it and well looked after, thank you
Mr. Matthewson (10.0)
Mr. Wale (8.8)
We had a wonderful time at Featherdown it was such a fantastic family holiday we loved the tent, the atmosphere and the fact that we could let our children roam freely and safely. We also enjoyed meeting the other guests and eating together at the bread oven and playing games adults and children together. Thank you so much.
Mrs. Munro (10.0)
Mr. Pritchard-Wilkes (10.0)
What a brilliant experience for all the family. Kids loved our own chickens and playing football with the other kids until it was too dark to see the ball. We loved no tv/computer games and letting the kids experience A taste of country life.
Mrs Blackburn (10.0)
Mrs. Whitmore (10.0)
Mr. Leech (10.0)
WE all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the farm. We loved the whole experience - cooking on the stove, spending the evening in candle and oil lamp light and enjoying the communal meal by - cooking with the bread oven. The children did not miss electricity once - building dams and mud pies, catching bugs, collecting eggs and enjoying the space and freedom._x000D_ The only slight fly in the ointment was that the farm is in the direct flight path to Gatwick Airport and the sound on the planes really did taken away the enjoyment of the noises of the farm and countryside.
Mrs. Niccolls (8.8)
We are Tim and Sarah Bargman and we live and farm at Canfields with Erica, Tim’s mother, and our children Toby and Charley, not forgetting the farm cat Tinker. If your car is already full to bursting, we can provide you with a child's high chair. We advise you to indicate this at the time of booking because numbers are limited on the farm.
