Lampeter, Wales

Described by one guest as “a little bit of heaven at the end of a farm track,” Pant yr Hwch is West Wales’s first Feather Down farm.

We have put great effort into restoring the farm’s buildings to their 18th century origins, employing materials that combine both traditional and 21st-century techniques towards a sustainable, self-sufficient farm. And of course your stay directly contributes to this goal.

Here we farm a flock of rare-breed Badger Face sheep, along with woolly pigs, chickens, ducks and bees, and have also restored the vegetable garden and orchard. We avoid using any artificial fertilisers or chemicals and rear animals that are free ranging and slow grown, which allows native wildlife to flourish and the farm pond to be frequented by wildfowl. Red kites also nest nearby and you’ll likely be lulled to sleep by tawny owls.

The sweeping beaches of the Ceredigion Heritage Coast make wonderful day trips, as do the Pembrokeshire Coast and Brecon Beacons national parks. Closer to home, and within walking distance, is the local village of Llanwnnen, which has two pubs. The picturesque harbour town of Aberaeron is also nearby, with its brightly painted Georgian architecture and dolphin-spotting trips in the bay.

Back at the farm Ann makes tasty things for the Farm Larder using home-grown garden produce and nature’s hedgerow treasures. Slowly fermented breads are a staple to enjoy with freshly collected eggs and home-reared bacon and sausages for breakfast, while homemade cakes and biscuits for afternoon tea are a specialty.
