We’re aiming for Lunsford to continue to be a firm favourite with guests for this year and many more to come, as it has since we joined the Feather Down fold two years ago.
Lunsford currently breeds Romney ewes and mix-bred suckler cows and their calves sired by Bertie, a pedigree Aberdeen Angus bull. We take great pride in everything we do here, and we hope this really shines through on our informative, engaging Farm Tour.
Exploration of the farm reveals some beautiful historic farm buildings, as well as several ponds offering the possible sight of a water vole. On the 10-minute walk to the beach, you’ll cross ancient meadows and marshland full of rare and endangered species; the old Saxon shoreline of Sussex; and the royal Military Canal, dug to repel Napoleon 200 years ago.
In the unlikely event that you tire of the drool-worthy views, the farm makes an ideal base for a visit to the nearby cobbled streets of the ancient town of Rye, the seven miles of beach at Camber Sands, and the town of Winchelsea, with its variety of tours including that of the vaulted medieval wine cellars hidden beneath the streets. There’s also Hastings for a taste of the traditional British seaside holiday and a pretty Old Town area full of eclectic gift shops.
Or you could just hop on a bike to the Royal Oak in the village – a great spot for pub grub or a relaxing pint!
