Woolland, Blandford Forum, Dorset

“The farm was delightful and our kids had the time of their little lives – what freedom they felt that they certainly don’t get a home,” wrote one family after their stay with us. And we do think what we have here is something special.

The farm’s 300 acres of beautiful organic grassland in the heart of Dorset’s Blackmore Vale are stacked full of animals to enjoy: Hereford cross cattle; our flock of a thousand sheep; point-to-point horses; Shetland pony Burger and little Welsh mountain pony Alice; traditional breed pigs; and a menagerie of goats, dogs and cuddly lop-eared bunnies are all just waiting for you to visit. We are particularly excited about the prospect of our sow Cynthia welcoming piglets in April - fingers crossed!

If you wish to spend a day away from this haven, a climb up nearby Bulbarrow Hill offers the reward of a lookout from Dorset’s second highest point, with a view of up to seven different counties. You can also spot the ruins of Corfe Castle from here, as well as the distant Blackmore Hills.

Five miles from Mount Pleasant is the market town of Sturminster Newton, with its 17th-century watermill and impressive weir. Also within easy reach of us is Blandford Forum – one of the best-preserved Georgian towns in England – and Dorset’s beaches.

Back at the farm the more adventurous can live or re-live memories of youth in our ancient woodlands and on our nature trail close by. In the tranquil setting of your tents, or sat by the campfire, you can compare your day to those of Enid Blyton’s ‘Famous Five’ tales of derring do – we don’t reckon there’ll be much in it.
